I had the same dish and enjoyed the duck and loved the sauce. All made for a pleasant evening except for that Ann became drunk and incorrigible. She needed to be restrained.

I gave Outliers a low score for its food, but it doesn't appear here. A dish of duck leg, carrots, and large ravioli was ruined by a sauce that tasted like it had vinegar in it, more appropriate for sauerbraten.

Only 4 of us but we had a pleasant evening.

Sorry, I have to go out of town this afternoon to get ahead of the storm in Philly.

To those thinking I am dismayed...well, yes, I am. At a time when people are jobless and/or trimming down budgetwise, going to an outlandishly-priced restaurant is just plain wrong, unless one is Donald Trump or Cindy Crawford, where dollars to them are like pennies to us, the public at large. So, I hope you understand my position. There are many restaurants that serve great food at reasonable prices. Jimmy's and the Panda Garden are two examples. I hope in the future that a restaurant choice is not based on "presentation of miniscule portions with fancy names," inscrutable, except to those conversant in a language meant to imply the dishes are of satisfactory quality- and quantity. No dish to an Out and Abouter is worth $27, except for "mass quantities" [an old SNL humorous term].

C'mon organizer(s), use a proper yardstick when choosing a restaurant and one which does not limit the number of guests. I feel sorry for the wait list people in the present case.

Can't you guys find a lower-priced venue for dinner? No need to buy a meal costing you $40+. There are many ethnic restaurants (exotic, yes!) more reasonably priced.

We generally do a mix of restaurants. Keep your eye on the calendar for the next Sea Dog, Dogfish, or similar venue.

    Judith Pollack:

There are many restaurants where the food is GOOD and at reasonable prices. Outliers is a hoydy-toydy ripoff with fancy French menu names and small portions. It's your $$$. Spend as you wish. Q: Would you pay $100 a dish if the food is good? Those are your words. I think Outliers has an "in" with the Meetup group. They clean up for sure. Rule of thumb: "If you don't recognize the name of the dish, watch your wallet or purse!"

I double booked with another meetup and will be trying a restaurant in Brunswick. Not sure how I did that. I thought the one in Brunswick was on March 12th.

Panda Garden is about the best Chinese restaurant in Portland (no buffet!). Highest-priced menu item is $13.95 and all items are top notch and average about $9. Why doesn't the group consider this or another restaurant with main dish not a ridiculous $25 and leaving you hungry? And $8 avg. for a beer and cocktails? Jimmy's is high for a beer at $4 and Outliers is double! You'll get more people going(if that's what you want) at entrees less than $25. Surely, there are many acceptable restaurants in Portland at a more reasonable price than one with fancy-shmancy French names (haughty!!!) on the menu to "impress." Well, it doesn't impress me. NYC has hundreds of restaurants that would put Outliers to shame at much lower prices. I suggest this group do some restaurant searching next time.

Gotta love Meetup scheduling system! Just saw this and there were 7 spots open. When I tried to RSVP "yes", it showed "full join the wait list."
