All Group Social Mixer at the Slide Inn

We will be at the Slide Inn this month! (which used to be Il Piatto but has been remodeled and renamed - same owner).  We will have part of the restaurant for our group.

RSVP's will open 1 week prior to the event....

The owner, Eugene, has kindly given us an extended happy for food and drinks from 6pm to 9 pm and you have the option of the Slide Inn Happy Hour menu or the Jade Lounge Happy Hour menu.  (The Jade lounge has really yummy drinks.)  There is free street parking all around the adjacent residential neighborhood but since there is another meetup group you may have to walk a few blocks by the time you find a spot - but we are outdoor adventurers so a little walk for us should be easy. for us, right?

Due to another group being there, and probably ending before we do, it's perfectly fine to come later - we should be there until about 9 pm.

For more info on this location and it's adjacent sibling restaurant check out these websites:

This is a casual social event designed to allow our members to meet and greet and find like minded souls to share future outdoor adventures. If you cannot make it by 6:00 PM-you are welcome to come later. Make new friends, plan new trips, compare notes on past explorations-but most of all, have fun.(If you want to come earlier, please note that the Happy Hour starts before our event.)

This is a really great opportunity for members that haven't yet participated to get to know other people in the group before you go on any adventures with them. You are going to feel more at ease heading out on your first camping trip, or hike if there is a familiar face in the crowd. So I highly encourage you to use these social events to break the ice and convert the sea of strangers into life long friendships. I also want to encourage all current event hosts and assistant organizers to come and introduce themselves to other members.

Donations (requested but not required):  Our group and our events remain free and open to all.  We have not any any corporate sponsors for nearly a year so we must ask for donations to help pay for our reoccurring web registration fees (approx $150 a year), miscellaneous expenses (name tags, tickets, banners)  and to fund events that require deposits a year in advance, like the annual LongBow group camp (which can require up to an $800 deposit 12 months in advance just to hold the reservation).  Please look for a donation jar at the event and consider a donation to support the group.   I want to keep this group from having required dues or fees for our events so people who are students, out of work, or otherwise economically compromised will always have a relatively low cost avenue to enjoy the outdoors.  My philosophy is that this makes the world a better place for everyone.  I can only do this with your help!  I would prefer that people make voluntary donations and that no one feels pressured to do so as a condition of attending.   If you know of a business that would like to sponsor the group, please let me know.   Can't attend but want to donate to help the group? - I will see if I can set up a page just for accepting donations so stay tuned.

Interested in seeing more events?  Have a favorite hike, urban walk, kayak route, bike route, outdoor festival or other event that you would like to share with others?  Know of an interesting outdoor related movie, class or workshop?  Want to coordinate a professionally guides raft or kayak trip?  You don't have to be an iron man or women to lead.  You can propose an event as simple as an outdoor play, concert or movie or as complex as an extended backpacking trip. We are always looking for volunteers to organize new events or activities.  Joanne your organizer will be at the social and would love to talk to you or answer your questions.  Never fear - we won't pressure you to do anything just because you ask about it, and if you do decide to lead an event, your obligation is only for the amount of events that you volunteer to lead, although we certainly hope you will have so much fun you will want to come back and lead more.

Just a reminder - we are primarily a camping, hiking and outdoor adventurer group, not a singles dating group. We certainly hope that through sharing outdoor activities long term friendships will develop and it is perfectly fine if people find some romance along the way. But when you come to our socials, please respect that the other members are looking for friends to go hiking and camping with and don't want to be pressured by folks coming solely to "hook up". So please come with that in mind and try to make it so all our members feel comfortable and will want to come back to the next social and participate in our events.

Hope to see you there!

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
