Join us for an extraordinary, one-and-only, free Opera in the Park performance of Norma on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 6 pm at the Washington Park Amphitheater, next to the Rose Gardens. This year's performance stars:
Angela Meade as Vincenzo Bellini's Norma, Allan Glassman as Pollione Carla Dirlikov as Adalgisa, Richard Zeller as as Oroveso, Elizabeth Baldwin as Clotilde .
The concert features a full orchestra and chorus conducted by Maestro Keith Clark.
We would also love to see you at our 2nd annual Northwest Young Voices concert on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 3 pm at St. John the Baptist Church on the campus of Oregon Episcopal School to hear and support the wonderful opera talent that our region is producing.
Portland SummerFest Presents Opera in the Park has brought free opera to more than 35,000 Oregonians since the first performance of The Barber of Seville in 2003, drawing the largest crowds of the Washington Park Summer Concert series. Opera in the Park attracts audiences of all ages and backgrounds who attend performances to enjoy this unique contribution to the cultural life of Portland. Presented in concert format with full orchestra and lively narration, these concerts have introduced thousands of Portlanders to the world of opera and been avidly attended by a growing number of loyal fans.
Opera in the Park is free to all. The audience atmosphere is informal and welcoming. Picnics and families are welcome!
There will be wonderful picnic goodies, and you are each welcome to bring your own special bottle of sparkle and a picnic basket to share with the group. Put on your wonderful Summer Hat for the Opera and bring your blanket and share!
The roses will be absolutely beautiful come earlier and stroll down the Garden before meet up with us at 5:00 PM. I am planning to set up our spot on the grassy area close to the stage on the right side of the main entrance stairs. if you were standing at the bottom steps of the stairs...go to the right side. I found that the sound is so much better there. I will stand at the bottom of the stairs facing directly center to the amphitheater with my big purple hat on at 5 PM. After that I will have to get us the spot.
Sign up soon! Please brings your friends and family. This will be an amazing night of Live Opera under the summer sun!
