City Repair's Village Building Convergence-Neighborhood Scale Community Activism

Now in its 13th year, the Village Building Convergence has helped hundreds of neighborhoods take ownership of the places they live and bring community back into the crossroads of our local culture.

Matt Bibeau will share an in-depth presentation on this annual 10-day event in Portland, OR, sharing stories and strategies to offer a permaculture perspective on the Village Building Convergence and how elements of the event can inspire and activate us in ways that resemble a modern-day re-villaging of our neighborhoods and communities.

Several other event organizers will be available to share information about this year's event and how folks can get involved. A $10 event fee will support this year's VBC projects (nobody turned away for lack of funds).

"City Repair's mission is to facilitate an annual collaboration and cross-pollination of neighbors, groups, and civic partnerships to transform our city through village life patterns, educational and placemaking projects. This culminates in a 10 day springtime celebration.

Groups of neighbors all across the city bring to life the natural building, permaculture, and public art projects that they’ve been planning. Participants learn valuable skills for urban sustainability and social regeneration while celebrating the creativity and diversity of our wonderful city!"

Matt Bibeau, MSEd, is an eight-year supporter of the Village Building Convergence and has presented on the topic from Alaska to California and from Hawaii to Maine. Matt brings his experience as a Permaculture teacher into his presentation and offers a broad perspective as well as a designers look at the VBC, offering insight into how this event can support your local neighborhood, and how elements of it can be applied to other cities across the country.
