Ski Day @ Meadows

  • This location is shown only to members

Hello all! Here's a recap for tomorrow if you didn't want to read the full meeting description which I beg of you to do.

We will all meet at the park and ride inside the garage (9900 NE multnomah st). This location is NOT in Tigard. Text me if you're worried and I'll drop a pin and send it to you [masked]).

Don't worry about figuring out cars. We will do this when we all arrive at the garage which is why I ask that you all be there at 7 am SHARP. That way we can figure out cars and gear so everyone and all of their gear get to the mountain and we head out no later than 7:15 am.

I anticipate a few cars leaving around midday, mine included which is already full. Again, we will figure this out in the morning as best we can and as many of us will likely end up skiing together, we can make decisions as the day progresses.

I will be there in my White Chevy Equinox, Seahawks and WSU Coug sticker hopefully before everybody else. I'll be in black ski pants and likely a green North West sweatshirt. Find parking and come hang with me while everyone else rolls in.

See everybody in the morning, can't wait!
------------

Number of members who can attend: We are limited by the number of drivers. As more drivers sign up more seats will be made available. The people on the waiting list will automatically be moved up. Let me know if you can drive when you sign up.

Meeting place: We meet in the SE corner of the parking structure (NOT the parking lot!) at the Gateway Transit Center. I drive a white Chevy Equinox with a WSU Coug logo and Seahawks logo on my rear window and Crater Lake plates. For some reason a number of people have had a hard time finding us so please make sure you are in the right place - it absolutely NOT in Tigard. If you are concerned about finding us feel free to make a comment and I'll send you my phone number so that you can call the day of the event if need be.

Riding up: There is no need to arrange rides prior to arriving at Gateway. We'll always drive the fewest possible number of cars to the mountain and will divide up at Gateway. No one will be left behind. Be on time, though. We don't wait for stragglers.

Gas money: Each rider pays $15 to the driver for each trip. Please have cash ready and offer to the driver without him/her having to ask.

On the mountain: Most of us prefer to ski/board with others. Once at Meadows we meet up by the outside ticket booth and group up according to skill level. You can of course take off on you own if you prefer.

Helmets save lives. Please wear one.

Disclaimer: While this is a regular Meetup event it is not “led” in the same way we might be used to having Meetup events led. I'll see you long enough to get you in a car at Gateway and possibly again at Meadows long enough to get you hooked up with a group but unless you are skiing with me we will have limited contact. Each person needs to self manage, come prepared for the weather conditions and ski/board according to his/hers ability.

Liability Waiver:

As with User Agreements on the Internet that we all click on but never read hundreds if not thousands of event organizers around the country have event participants sign boiler plate liability waivers prior to events that aren't read by the participants. I have little faith that those waivers would hold up in court should something unfortunate happen during the event and the organizer get end up in court being sued. In plain language I want to make it real clear that you are participating in this event at your own risk and that by signing up you are releasing the event organizers of all liability. All outdoor events are potentially high risk and you need to use your personal judgement in keeping that risk below your comfort level. You should never do anything you feel might result in injury or worse depending on someones judgement other then your own. Should injury or worse still occur you realize the fault is your own and you agree not to pass the blame to the event organizer or another team member. You may participate in the event only under these conditions.

Really fun, great weather and great company! Only thing I was curious about was were we supposed to meet up as a group at some point at the beginning once we got to the mountain?

    January 19, 2014

    • Alaina

Some groups do and some groups don't. It's really up to the group to decide if that's what we want and it never got brought. Bring it up at the next meetup you go to though!

I had a blast with my group but I do wish that we could have met up with other groups as well! :) I'll mention it at the next trip I do! Thanks so much Alaina! Had a blast!

Hi, as we live in Hood River, we won't be meeting in Portland as it is a opposite direction but we would still love to snowboard with you guys. Can we meet up with your group around lunch time @ Meadows next time and spend all the afternoon with you. (We are not beginners so you won't need to babysit us.)

Tomorrow will be a beautiful spring skiing/riding condition from 9 to about 1 o’clock. After 1 the snow will turn sticky and grabby and skiing/riding won’t be as fun …it could even be hazardous to your soft tissue. I drive a pathfinder (with Thule cargo box) that can sit 4 adults (and gears) comfortably. Does anyone want to quit around 2 o’clock and be back in town before 4? I will swing by only if there is at least one person who wants to come back early. You do know that the Seahawks are playing tomorrow, right?

    January 17, 2014

    • Alaina

Hawks play Sunday, my friend. I'll probably buzz out around 2.

Conundrum - My plans changed . I have to go back to next adventure to review my order for ski equipment. I will not be able to make it.

  • Alaina

Hi again. I just got home from a series of unfortunate events having to do with planes and fog coming home from a business trip. That being said, I'll be there to help organize but I would prefer not to ski tomorrow. I WILL ski if there are not enough vehicles but if anyone else is willing to drive so that I can go home and sleep, I would be so very grateful. Regardless, I'll see you all in less than 4 hours. Oh my gahd.

Hey all, I can drive and have room for four others. Should I just come to the parking lot?

    January 17, 2014

I'll be driving up tomorrow morning and I'm willing to pick up a few people (2 will fit in my car with gear) at the meeting spot at 7AM. I probably won't stay until 4 but I'm open to the idea if it's still fun out there! Let me know if anyone is interested.

    January 17, 2014

    • Alaina

We'll probably need your rig if you're good with driving still, Aaron. See you in the morning!

I'm still good with driving. See ya at 7.

Aaron, you are welcome to join Rabi and I if you like…we will have a freaking UN conference meeting on the way to the mountain. Now I’ve a dinner engagement and I will not be checking this site anymore tonight. I hope you can join us ...and that goes for anyone who like to quit by 2 pm. Trust me that I am dialed into Hood skiing scene and skiing will not be that great past 2. Rabi – I will see you at 7 for sho. I am out until tomorrow!

    January 17, 2014

    • Aaron F.

Awesome! I'll meet you at the meeting spot and if no one else joins, we can just ride together. See ya tomorrow.

      January 17, 2014

Ok Rabi, I will c u at 7 at the designated spot. I have a room for 2 more who wants to quit early.

I'm on the waitlist and hoping there are other drivers available. If you can drive give a shout so maybe the waitlisters have a chance :)

    1 · January 17, 2014

I made it through the wait list for tomorrow but already rented a car. I'm going to drive past Multnomah Falls to catch the scenary on the way. I'm glad to meet people around noon for lunch and an afternoon of riding down the the mountain.

Crikey, the report I saw was 12000 ft freezing elevation, ice / cement like snow conditions and morning fog tomorrow. I may wait for better conditions on another day.

I will be bringing my son along too. Can't figure out how to add a plus 1 from my phone.

Any chance someone can swoop by and pick me up from Goose Hollow area? I can take the max but would prefer a ride :)

Is there a car that might be willing to come back a little bit earlier I'm hoping for 4:30 or 5ish? Thanks!

    January 14, 2014

    • Sean

I'm not planning to stay at the mountain much past 4. I think the meetup end time includes the travel time it takes to get back to gateway

      January 14, 2014

    • Ophelia

Gotcha--yeah, I'm kind of hoping to be back well before 6. I'm having company over on Saturday, but need to make time to ski!

      January 14, 2014

  • Sean

FYI, my vehicle holds 4 people other than myself and I have a ski rack that holds 3 pairs of skis. I may be bringing a +1 with me

    1 · January 13, 2014

  • Alaina

Loving how many of you are planning to come! If you are unable to come for any reason, please, please, PLEASE change your RSVP on Meetup. Obviously I'm keeping a close eye on the #of attendees and am increasing the number as we grow. I wouldn't want to keep someone on the wait list if there is actually a spot open.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! Also, last season we stuck around for a refreshing beverage before we left the mountain so keep that in mind. It's not a required thing, but definitely an option!

    January 13, 2014

  • Katy

Looking forward to going up to the Mt !!
