Resort skiing/boarding at Meadows

Thanks to a series of nice storms Meadows is opening on Thanksgiving again this year. To allow some early season skiing/boarding I'm organizing this group's first event of the season for Saturday November 24th. I will not attend but will help set things up to where everybody has a ride. I'll be there on December 1 if the storms keep coming in.

The base is still weak with 33” of snow as I'm posting this. There will be a limited opening with the Mt. Hood Express, Daisy and Easy Rider as the only chairs open. If you don't have rock skis in the morning you will by the afternoon.

I'll organize weekly trips to Meadows on Saturdays with a format very similar to the one we used for the past two years. The meeting time will fluctuate between 6:45 and 7 depending on how busy we think it will be. Our intent will always be to park in the main lot and to be ready to go on the first chair. Each car will determine what time they leave. Most of us are ready to go by 2 PM.

The biggest problem we had last year was flaky drivers. A couple of times we had two or more drivers stand us up at Gateway and were forced to hustle to get a seat for everybody. No one was ever left behind but it got tight a few times. To alleviate that problem we will only offer seats as we have drivers sign up. Please answer the questions as you RSVP.

It will look a bit strange when you sign up. Everybody will end up on the waiting list until I have the first driver. Once I do the first people who signed up will automatically get moved on to the list.

Below is an description of the event and a disclaimer. Please read once. It will not change much from week to week. The description last edited[masked]

Number of members who can attend: We are limited by the number of drivers. As more drivers sign up more seats will be made available. The people on the waiting list will automatically be moved up.

Meeting place: We meet in the SE corner of the parking structure at the Gateway Transit Center. I drive a Maroon BMW and am easy to spot. For some reason a number of people have had a hard time finding us so please make sure you are in the right place. If you are concerned about finding us feel free to email me earlier in the week and I'll send you my phone number so that you can call the day of the event if need be.

Riding up: There is no need to arrange rides prior to arriving at Gateway. We'll always drive the fewest possible number of cars to the mountain and will divide up at Gateway. No one will be left behind. Be on time, though. We don't wait for stragglers.

Gas money: Each rider pays $10 to the driver for each trip. Please have cash ready and offer to the driver without him/her having to ask.

On the mountain: Most of us prefer to ski/board with others. Once at Meadows we meet up by the outside ticket booth and group up according to skill level. You can of course take off on you own if you prefer.

Helmets save lives. Please wear one.

Disclaimer: While this is a regular Meetup event it is not “led” in the same way we might be used to having Meetup events led. I'll see you long enough to get you in a car at Gateway and possibly again at Meadows long enough to get you hooked up with a group but unless you are skiing with me we will have limited contact. Each person needs to self manage, come prepared for the weather conditions and ski/board according to his/hers ability.

Liability  Waiver:

As with User Agreements on the Internet that we all click on but never read hundreds if not thousands of event organizers around the country have event participants sign boiler plate liability waivers prior to events that aren't read by the participants. I have little faith that those waivers would hold up in court should something unfortunate happen during the event and the organizer get end up in court being sued. In plain language I want to make it real clear that you are participating in this event at your own risk and that by signing up you are releasing the event organizer of all liability. All outdoor events are potentially high risk and you need to use your personal judgement in keeping that risk below your comfort level. You should never do anything you feel might result in injury or worse depending on someones judgement other then your own. Should injury or worse still occur you realize the fault is your own and you agree not to pass the blame to the event organizer or another team member. You may participate in the event only under these conditions.

Not the best skiing conditions but what would you expect this early in the season ? The Cascade express side was simply a piece of hard ice, all the way.

Meadows just opened, and not all the lifts are up and running. They must be waiting for the snow to come down. I took a lesson, and the staff was friendly, and really cool.

Hey there... I'm making plans to head out and grabbing a friend on the way up, but would like to meet up the group for future events... if you see me in the parking lot, I'm in a Green Jeep Commandor (board rack/Yakima Cargo Box). Stop by and say hi... always good to meet new riders, even if it's just saying hey!

The weather predictions are all over the place as of right now. They all agree that freezing levels are dropping tomorrow so some time tomorrow any precipitation will come down as snow. Grace- Guest are fine but as of right now there are no spare seats, even for you. I'll check again in a few hours.

Thanks Magnus, great detail and direction for all, thank you for organizing. Unfortunately I will be at a wild tailgater in Corvallis for the day but will be thinking of you folks having fun. Question , is there a bus that goes up to Meadows? I could not find details on their website.. Can someone send me a link. I thought one of the employees ( During season pass picture taking) mentioned they were reducing their fee to something like $20 per person. This would be fun for all of us to ride all together every once in awhile. Thoughts ? Cheers !

I really wish, but I won't be able to ski/board this season or maybe until late spring since I got hit by a SUV and still trying to recover (100% her fault). Take care everyone. Hopefully I'll see you on the mountain in Spring.

I'm new to the group, but always looking for people to ski with. I won't be able to make it this weekend, and I don't have rock skis, but I'm super excited for the season and looking forward to meeting some new folks.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
