Announcing a new Meetup for Portland Ski & Snowboard!

What: Boyscout Ridge-Back country Skiing

When: December 19, 2009 7:30 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

A back country day ski trip through the woods and meadows of Mt. Hood. Traveling off trail from Timberline, over to Boy Scout ridge and down the gentle slopes to White River and loop up the back side.

Strenuous 10 miles 1000 ft elevation gain

Return to Portland aprox 6-7:00 pm

This is a wilderness area, group-limit is 12

This is a meetup exclusive-no donation requested.

Requires some skills in cross country or back country skiing and proper equipment

Equipment: Best to have tele light skis and skins (Kauru Guides or equivalent) or Randonee. Skis must be a min. 3 in width, steel edges. 3 pin binding and plastic boots recommended. For less than $35, all equipment-including skins, can be rented at the Mountain Shop. Reserve early in order to get the right gear.

As usual, no dogs, cotton, or heart attacks.

Make sure to bring:
- Skis and skins (mountain shop rents out skins!)
- poles
- Warm clothes (absolutely no cotton!)
- Rain pants and down or fleece jacket
- A good outer shell.
- Water proofed boots
- Hat & gloves
- Sunglasses and sunscreen
- Gaiters if you have them
- Food & water
- Headlamp
- Drivers will require a sno-park permit and chains or traction tires
- Gas money for the drivers

Weather forecast is predicting 3 feet of fresh snow by Saturday. Great opportunity to learn or practice your back country skiing skills.
