Announcing a new Meetup for PDX Metro Social and Friendship Network!

What: New-In-Town-Series: 27th Annual Irvington Home Tour

When: May 17, 2009 10:00 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Meetup Description: Visit beautiful, historic homes in Irvington that have been restored in a responsible way. Thank you Margie for suggesting this! Take a spring stroll to learn about architecture and support a PDX neighborhood organization. This event is an Irvington Community Association Fund-raiser. The annual home tour is the ICA's single source of income. Proceeds go exclusively to local charities and neighborhood projects.

This is a placeholder; please check back for event details such as where/how we'll meet as a group. We will tour the eight historic homes and then meet for a late lunch in Irvington.

The following description of the Irvington neighborhood is taken from the ICA's website:

"Few city neighborhoods in the West have the variety and quality of early 20th Century residential architecture to equal Portland's historic Irvington Neighborhood. Portland's population boomed in the years after 1900, spurred by the 1905 Lewis & Clark Centennial Exposition. With the west side of the Willamette River fully built up, the city expanded to the east side trolley car suburbs like Irvington in the years from 1900 through 1929. Upper middle class Portlanders built substantial Irvington houses in the styles common to the period -- Arts and Crafts, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, Prairie Style, Bungalow -- many with an inventiveness and creative touch freed from East Coast architectural proprieties. Despite some losses to urban development, Irvington retains its historic charm, with thousands of well maintained or recently restored homes."

Please purchase your ticket directly from the ICA. The tour consists of eight homes and your ticket will tell you at which home to start your tour. Not all ticket holders will be starting at the same location so we will have to regroup later. Please note that not all homes on the tour are accessible for the mobility impaired.

Please check back for more details of how/where we'll meet as a group.
