Dry Creek Falls/Pacific Crest Falls

Date: Sunday, January 26 8:45 a.m.

Distance: 7.6 to 8.2 miles, depending upon return route

Elevation Gain: 1000 ft

Peak Elevation: 960 ft

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Approximate Hiking Time: 5-6 hours

Dogs: No

$$: Requested donation of $2 for members or $4 for nonmembers, plus carpool money of 10 cents/mile for approximately 80 miles

Everyone, please, pray for snow in the mountains. Soon. But in the meantime, are you on a quest to see every waterfall in the gorge? I know I am, and here's a perfect opportunity to knock off two more. Plus, its an adventure, as your leader has never done this hike before. (No worries -- its on the PCT, so surprises are exceedingly unlikely) Obviously, I have no adjectives to describe these falls, or the hike to them. But how bad can it be?

We will meet at the Gateway park and ride at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 departure. Please bring the normal stuff for a winter time hike (non-cotton clothes in multiple layers, proper footwear, 10 essentials, food and plenty of water, etc.). If you have any questions about what to bring or about this hike, contact me by email or at[masked], cell[masked]-7908.

Nice hike, a bit icy at spots, two nice falls, good view of WA across the river, not enough sun on our side!

I enjoyed really interesting new people and lovely bits of old growth forest. I'm delighted with the people who have recently arrived in town. Hope you will stick with our Meetup. Thanks, Matt, for organizing--and Bob for sweeping!

Is there anyone driving from Hillsboro or Beaverton who can pick me up at SW 13th & Market--a very quick off/on?

I don't know why Meetup put me on top of the pile of Outings Leaders--at least on my screen--but I'm not leading this one. Matt is! On the other hand, I HAVE been to Dry Creek Falls--with Tom Kloster, in fact. I'll try to dig up what he told us about why its called that. I think there is even an Oregon Field Guide show about it.

We will meet on the east side of the garage (i.e. the street/fred meyer side) about halfway down the row. I'll be the tall, svelte guy standing next ot the classic 90's green Honda Civic.
