Tillamook Head: 12.6 miles; 1,350' gain, 1,350’ peak altitude

Elevation gain is from Seaside to Ecola State Park and back. The trees are good-sized, and there are spectacular cliff-top views of the ocean. Bring binoculars and cameras: this is a ramble more than a hike. Feel free to stop and photograph flowers, watch for birds and whales, or enjoy the sweeping vistas down the coast. Pace 1½ miles/hour, including breaks; optional stop at Bill's in Cannon Beach brewpub après hike. Meet at 7:30 AM, back around 6:30 PM. (Portland Sunrise: 5:21 AM Sunset: 9:01 PM)

There were plentiful Sitka spruces to 6' in diameter; lots of western hemlock and in places red alder; plentiful salal and sword, bracken and deer ferns; elderberry, salmonberry and huckleberries fruits in spots. There were also a few yellow monkey flowers, Oregon irises, goat's beard, cow parsnip, and miner's lettuce in bloom.

Hi everyone! I am really excited about this trip. I plan on driving to get to the Hillsboro parking garage but I have a small car so I was hoping to carpool with someone if at all possible. I also wanted to let anyone know that I will be driving from SW Portland if anyone wants to be picked up along the way instead of taking the MAX line. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I'm so unhappy about having to change my rsvp to "no". This is the first hike I was able to sign up for before a waitlist was established. However, family obligations have arisen. I hope you all have a very good time.

Super excited about the possibility... :-)

Tom...Just a heads up if weather doesn't cooperate to be dry I'll change my RSVP and go with the group another time. Fingers crossed tho' that we have decent weather for this fair-weather hiker ;-)

I'm only used to easy and moderate hikes, but will try my best.

I overrate my endurance--still need to build it up though I would have loved the hike. I hope everyone has a terrific time!

12 miles is a long way. Start with something shorter - maybe three miles.

Are dogs allowed on this hike?

    May 28

    • Tom Lum F.

If you are willing to drive, yes. Footnote: If it were a wilderness hike, though - which it is not - that would mean one less person could go and I would not allow it.

This is my first event with this group. I would arrive via max also. Are participants carpooling?

    June 2

    • Cindy L.

I'm hoping to carpool with others at the meetup location :-)

      June 2

    • Tom Lum F.

      Yes, we always carpool!

I can drive and take 3 people with me. I have a hatchback. Riders will need to be compact with what they bring. No non-collapsable walking sticks.

I think I should work up to this hike, and aim for another time with shorter hikes meanwhile. Have a great day!
