Mt. Hood Wilderness, Elk Meadows & Gnarl Ridge: 12 mi., 2,200' gain, 6,500' peak

Subalpine flowers at their exuberant peak and great views of Mt. Hood from the southeast. Practice your best 'Sound of Music' renditions for this one!
Bring binoculars and cameras: this is a ramble more than a hike. Pace 1.5 miles/hour, or slower (including breaks). Feel free to stop and photograph vistas, watch for birds, or track elk and coyote.

Brewpub to follow.

Wilderness area regulation restricts attendance to 12 heartbeats, so no dogs (that would be one less person). If you are interested, please add your name to the waiting list. I will manually add people to the "yes" list. People who have hiked with me before will get preferential treatment. Meet at 7:00 AM, back around 8:00 PM (Sunrise 5:42 AM Sunset: 8:52 PM).

Thanks for leading, Tom! Also thanks for the "flower and tree" info session ;) I'll keep what you taught us in mind on my next hike!

Thanks for an amazing hike, Tom! Wonderful group and just about perfect in every way. To paraphrase your comment at the meadow, a dream of a hike.

It says this is limited to 12 people, but only 6 are registered and it says it is full...

Yes, we'll carpool from Gateway. Wear good hiking boots and a couple of layers, as it might be a bit cool in the morning and/or evening.

This is my first time, so please help me what I should bring or wear. And, are we going to carpool over there from the Gateway Transit Center?
