What outdoor environment are you most interested in?

Ancient, aka, old growth forests; great wildflower spots like Dog Mountain in WA, Iron Mountain in OR; wild rivers & streams; mountain lakes with wetlands; in winter, places with good snow for XC skiing. I love the west side Cascades best. but I plan to do some hikes to the Oregon Coast and the east side of the Cascades as well. I really need a crew for those to moderate the carbon footprint of the trip.

I love taking field trips to the wild focusing on native plants & wildlife & the ecosystems services they provide; My hope: folks come home & insist that green streets/roofs, walls, bldgs & landscapes support critters that provide ecosystem services.

What Mary V. is saying about this Meetup Group

I love going out with the Sierra Club because of its conservation focus and I think the Meetup Group is a great idea to help spread the word to a larger audience and make new friends/members. I plan to publicize my trips to professionals in the Congress for the New Urbanism where I am on the Board and perhaps other groups dealing with the built environment as well because I would like them to better understand the ecosystem services as well as the exquisite beauty provided by our native plant communities. Although I have a few favorite spots on the eastside (like the Metolius), I'm a westside person, but I appreciate that the group has a High Desert Committee that leads conservation-oriented trips that attempt to help the economy of rural Oregon too. We trained quite a few enthusiastic new leaders this year, so I think you can expect to see some real diversity of offerings in the near future.
