World Class Whites -Burgundian Beauty Meursault to Montrachet BYOB or Just Taste

This tasting will celebrate the world's greatest white wines, Burgundian Chardonnays. From Meursault to Montrachet, Chablis to the Côte Chalonnaise, we will exult in imbibing from the highest expression of Chardonnay.

I know, you are probably thinking Chardonnay, ackk! who wants to drink some flabby, over-oaked, butter bomb . Well, not all chardonnays are made by by California corporate chiselers and cheats. Chardonnay from it's home region of Burgundy can soar to the summit of sublime splendor. So if your only experience with Chardonnay has been the disappointment of corporate Californian crud, do yourself a favor and find why they say the world's greatest whites come from Burgundy.

$5 if you bring a bottle, $10 to just taste. We will put the fees in a pot and the winner, (whoever brings the best rated bottle will take home the pot (Minus food expense). Blind Tasting.

Meat and exotic cheese plates provided.

Great Value event, the last 8 times, everyone got to taste at least 10 wines, and the winner took home money for bringing the best wine.

Once again, whoever brings the best wine (Blind rated), will take home the pot. If we get 10 people to show, the after expense pot should be at least $50, Last week the winner took home $95.

We will rate and taste blind.

Think you know White Burgundy? Bring a bottle and let's find out. If you bring the best bottle, you will go home with the winnings. Last time the winner took home $95, week before the pot was $80.

Starts at 7PM, but feel free to show up early, I always have a bottle or 2 open.

So, Bring a bottle, throw in $5 to the pot or $10 to just come and taste.

Thibert Update -- I spoke with the importer again, and instead of holding it back for restaurants, he's happy to sell it locally. Apparently, he can get more. Have your retailer call Scott Paul Wines to source it!

I did some looking around for our near-consensus #1 wine. the 2012 Domaine Thibert Macon Prisse is retails for about $23, give or take a dollar. This is a remarkable achievement for a lowly village wine. Our blind tasting was studded with some Burgundian wine royalty with the likes of Leroy, Dominique Lafon, de Montille and others, as well as a Marcassin, the chardonnay queen of California. I mentioned that some of these wines must simply be over priced; Gary gave the more upbeat opinion that there are still real bargains to be had in Burgundy. Either way, the Thibert is a steal. Now the bad news -- I'm told there is none left for consumer sales at the importer, just the bottles on the shelf at your favorite retailer or on the list at certain restaurants (or perhaps at the Scott Paul tasting room in the NW). If you know a retailer who already has the wine, go get some!

I'll bring a white burg. I'd encourage folks to pop off for a village wine, and skip the Jadot La Foret. For food . . . I like mild white cheeses and roasted nuts with these wines myself! And, here's a link to white burgundy bargains: http://www.winemag.com/Web-2012/White-Burgundy-Bargains/

Hi Rusty, great ideas and enthusiasm. I'll have to pluck a bottle from a store, while in town, but can't wait to share it and try some others that people bring.
