Writer's Social

New to the group? Want to test the waters and meet a few of your peers before submitting your work to our writing workshop? Or perhaps you’d like to share a small piece of your writing in an informal setting or just kick back, relax and talk about books, writing or life with some like-minded people?

Whether you’re new to Portland Aspiring Writers Group or you’re becoming one of the regulars, this meetup is for you. One of the interesting things for me that I didn't anticipate in organizing this group is writers like to talk, so this is when we get together and do that. There are no obligations and we keep it kind of free form. All you have to do is bring something to talk about and a willingness to listen, maybe buy something to drink or nosh on. Anything else is up to you, although we will set aside time for anyone who may want to read a small sample of their writing. So if you want to hear opinions expressed, books suggested or panned, or hear about what others are writing about and/or what they’re struggling with creatively, please join us! It's a great opportunity to meet others and see what a diverse range of writing styles and interests, and professional and academic experiences the members of our group have.

One final note:
Historically this has been our largest and most popular meetup. If you RSVP Yes and then find you can’t attend prior to the meetup, please take the time to change your RSVP to No, or contact the host privately or through the comments section to express your regrets. This is to ensure people who are automatically waitlisted can attend and it helps the host in gathering enough tables and chairs to seat everyone who RSVPed Yes. This meetup occurs in a freely and kindly provided public space that isn’t reserved to us exclusively, so please be respectful of your host, the venue and their other customers who might be looking for a seat by being thoughtful in letting the host know if you can’t attend as you’d hoped to.

So, I'm new to this group, but I love to write and would be interested in meeting everyone. Should I just come? I haven't come to a meetup blindly in a while. I live in Yarmouth and I don't drive but I'll be in Portland that day and thought I could take the bus over to the mall. If anyone, after meeting me of course and deciding I'm an okay person =), wants to give me a ride back - I think I see someone from Brunswick and someone in Falmouth on this list - I'd be much appreciative. Otherwise I'll have my friend pick me up but he'd rather not make a special trip. Thanks... let me know if anyone can volunteer to possibly give me a lift... I don't bite =) I'm a freelance writer, I like to write about health and psychology, as well as blogs and way too much rambling on Facebook, lol. It will be good to meet all of you. Thanks!
