This month we'll try something different. Given that my choices in fiction have yet to meet with strong support plus the fact that I am late in picking a selection, let's go back to 1982 and read just one novella from Different Seasons by Stephen King. I'm choosing "The Body". A quick search on Amazon for the latest mass market paperback of this book puts "The Body" at about 145 pages in length.

For those of you who may not know, this is the story the film Stand By Me was based on, although I'd suggest avoiding the movie if you haven't already seen it as the novella and the film are two different animals. This is a classic coming-of-age story about four friends (boys) who go to investigate the rumor of a kid having been killed by a train. This is my favorite work by Stephen King and, I think, shows a strength Mr. King is not generally known for - that he writes about children/teenagers really well. Anyway, if you haven't read it yet, it is well worth the read.

As for a venue, one of our members (Lesley) has agreed to host this one at her home in the North Deering section of Portland, not too far from exit 53 on I-95. Please contact me for directions and/or a ride. I can accommodate four other people in my car and I'll be coming from Biddeford so if you're in-between my start and end points I don't mind making slight detours.

Enjoyed sitting around Lesley's comfy living room chatting about Stephen King's amazing character development and his ability to capture sensations/moments with words. And enjoyed chatting about so many other related and not-so-related topics :) Great company! Great night!!
