Poetry Night

Dobra Tea in downtown Portland has a poetry night hosted by a group called Rhythmic Cypher. Please feel free to check out and nose around their website:

On the hardcopy schedule I have, this particular night's billing is listed as Casey Rocheteau with Greg McKillop. I'm not sure what that is but having been to the beginning of one of these nights I can tell you they are well-attended and very interesting, so I'm sure it will be a good time. The poetry readings will start at 7:00 PM but the organizer tells me there's usually a workshop starting at about 6:00 PM. This meetup will start at 6:15 PM, which seems to be when the place will really start filling up, however if anyone would like to attend the workshop, I will be trying to hold seats starting at about 5:30 PM. Tina Smith (TLove) is a very interesting and instructive person. I'd highly encourage you to attend the workshop if you're interested in learning about poetry and/or just want to meet other interesting people.

Dobra Tea is in the Old Port in downtown Portland. Parking is free on Sundays although I'm not sure how good or bad it will be on Sunday nights. My 'secret' parking spots where I generally can find a space are right in front of the courthouse (between the park and the courthouse, right off Pearl Street), Milk Street and the part of Pearl Street between Middle and Fore. If you're okay with walking further, Pleasant Street directly behind the Holiday Inn parking garage has some free parking and there's the small lot on the corner of High and Spring. I can't guarantee anything but those are my spots...

As for Dobra Tea, please visit their website at www.dobrateame.com. There's an area going towards the back on the righthand side where there's a raised platform where one must take off one's shoes and relax on cushions on the floor. This is my favorite spot but these three tables are also highly coveted by everyone else. I'd like to get one or two of those spots ideally if anyone is willing to meet up with me ahead of time. :)

Finally, the only 'charge' is Dobra Tea obviously would like to make money. If a few attendees can buy tea to drink or a bite to eat, that would be most helpful. I go here often so if you find yourself intimidated by their lengthy tea menu, I can offer advice on what I've found that's good. Most of it is not like anything you'd find in teabags but there's stuff that's not too far out.

I am hoping to get there for the workshop. Finally getting out to these things and poetry is my first love. So Scott I will see you there early and look for the opportunity to meet new people and just enjoy the ambiance. I'm a big tea drinker so this will be absolutely perfect.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
