Lets Meetup with Eric Price from Meetup

Scott Heiferman, founder and CEO of Meetup, will not be in Portland for a brief visit after all. But this is your chance to ask Eric Price from Meetup questions and learn what's new at Meetup! You've seen Scott's comments in this event. We're all sorry he had to cancel, but it will still be a great chance to meet other Portland area Organizers to swap stories and ideas.

We'll get together at Nirvana Café and Juice Bar, approximately on the corner of SE Grand and Morrison, inside the Weatherly Building. It has great coffee and tea as well as yummy breakfast treats. Meetup is treating us! And there will be Meetup goodies!

Please be sure and RSVP so we'll know how many people to expect. Thanks

This rating is largely due to the group that attended. While Eric was a very personable rep from headquarters, he didn't have much to share but empathy. Definitely appreciated the fact that he is also an organizer and 'feels our pain', but did not appreciate that he started the meeting by essentially telling us that he didn't prepare anything or have anything specific to say to us ...??? The saving grace was the enthusiasm of the other organizers who brought up many good points and had great things to share amongst ourselves -- THANKS A BIG BUNCH EVERYONE ... WhooHoo!!!

Really disappointed. I was hoping for some high level discussion about MeetUp in the community and its current mission in general. While Eric was able to answer some technical site questions, it would have been nice if he could have shared some of the info that Scott was originally scheduled to deliver.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to meet with fellow Organizers in the area! I learned new ways to market meetup and to better organize members and Pages. Thank you for the lovely breakfast pastries too! Julieann

Thanks Erik for taking the time to meetup with us. I would have liked to hear more about the future of meetup, and where the growth potential is.

A wonderful opportunity to talk with a MeetUp engineer. Nice goodies and a T-shirt too! I learned a lot!

So grateful for this opportunity! Here are my requests for MeetUp updates in priority order. Just a few items to make everyday tasks easier.

    1. Ability to assign email address where new Member requests go. (Or add a second alternate address for all email.) Right now all email goes to Organizer only so it is all or nothing. How about letting another Co-Organizer or other Leaders receive email?

    2. Member name in the email somewhere when we copy email to ourselves. Right now, the member name is only included in the email copy of initial greeting email.

    3. Email title for requests, something like "A request to join (GROUP) from (NAME)". The name is in the title for other emails now and it really helps. Would make it easy when going back to find an original email request.

Wish I could be there but am out of town. What I would like to suggest is a way to more easily E-mail contributing members. Right now I must make a special E-MAIL list but it is a very clumsy process. Meetup is not conducive to having paying members but I believe many groups would use this if it was available.

    Dear Scott
Thanks for at least thinking of us here. We’re sort of a “no fly zone” between San Francisco and Seattle for most CEOs. I'm looking forward to meeting Eric with the great last name!

    Four questions, since you’re asking.
    1. How can we organize the pages and files. They are alpha listed but I want my most important files and pages first or in a specific order.
    2. Would you consider the same formatting for the pages as you have the meetup events (instead of the old style)?
    3. A way to keep the whole calendar as the first thing people see when they log in, not just “what’s up next”.
    4. A way to turn off the automatic reminders “You have scheduled…” and “How was it?”

    Kindest regards

hi renee, we're focused this year on other things (mostly helping meetups get more members, and helping people discover the right meetups for them), sorry no updates on those items soon, but we'll put it on the list for future

Hi everyone! Bad news.... my trip to Portland is cancelled. So unfortunately, I'm not coming to meet y'all next week. Hopefully another time soon. Bill (your volunteer Portland Organizer Meetup Organizer -- whom I had the pleasure of meeting in Portland a few years ago) is doing it anyway, so I hope you still make it out to meet each other. (That's really the best part of Meetup Organizer Meetups anyway.) And Meetup HQ will pick up the tab for coffee & whatnot. So... apologies.... Portland Meetups are growing really well right now, so I hope it makes a difference in all your lives -- and the lives of your members. Last thing... I'm happy to answer any questions right here in this comment thread. It's not as face-to-face (that's the meetup way) but... Any questions or ideas to share?

Hi Scott, sorry to hear your trip is cancelled - many Portlanders are fans of your company and technology. Question: Has your team talked about how Meetup could provide a supporting role in the face of economic disruptions from a possible larger Middle East war? I understand that Meetup provides a platform for what wants to take place naturally - are there 'template' Meetups that showcase the "best of" for building resiliency in the face of hardship scenarios, such as "If (X), suggested Meetup (Y)? I don't mean to sound alarmist, but there is no dodging the tensions that have come to a head which may have shock-ripple effects throughout the economy. Is Meetup positioned to be a hero in case of a disaster scenario? Are there case studies to release for past successes in this? Here is one plan if you can see value in it: http://tedxsoma.com/UAjK/tedxsoma-randy-white-the-sharing-economy-plan-b-for-moving-america-forward/ Thank you for taking my question. 2 more quick things... 1) Someone from Meetup HQ *will* be there -- he's Erik Price, a really great part of the team here. He's an engineer (& former community team member) who works on things like designing/improving communication features, such as comment threads like this one. 2) We'll send some meetup schwag (tshirts maybe) -- so come by for some stuff! (Again, the best part of an Organizer Meetup is meeting each other -- swapping stories, tips, ideas, suggestions for building incredible community!)

I'd like to better understand meetup's strategy for integrating with other large scale event handling services such as cvent. Meetup was a great place to start my groups, but it is a closed system and is limiting when trying to manage an organization with over 200 members.

I use Meetup for a support group of local, national and international members. I would like ideas for making our group more cohesive even across the miles. For example, has anyone used Skype with Meetup?
