I am the chair of the 2009 Portland Walk Now for Autism. My son, Jack, was diagnosed when he was 2. How 4.5, he is making extraordinary progress, and I credit it largely to early diagnosis, and incredible access to care due largely to family support.
Jack was diagnosed a few months after his 2nd birthday. We started OT while waiting to get the official diagnosis from CDRC, and speech shortly thereafter. Behavioral therapy came right in the midst and primarily helped us to help him.
There are moments when Jack's progress leaves me wondering if it was all a bad dream, but in a flash he'll remind us that there is still work to be done. Still, I wouldn't trade his progress for anything.
