Let's play/learn Trajan!

  • May 1, 2013 · 6:00 PM
    • Trajan is a DIFFICULT and SUPER FUN game, scoring 7.95/10 at BoardGameGeek.  It has lots of little pieces, a tricky mancala (colored pieces in a circle of bowls) mechanic to determine action type, and 6 varities of action/ victory point accumulation.

If you like heavy games on par with Agricola, Power Grid & Shipyard, you just may fall in love.  If you're new to Euros (and if you don't know what that phrase means, it means YOU), save yourself for another event.

    • Location: Heather's in Hollywood District.  Allergy alert: 1 cat, peanuts, 4 steps with handrail. Near bus, MAX. Exact address to be emailed to RSVPs 1-2 days before event.

    • I know a couple other PWGG regulars own Trajan.  I'm crossing my fingers that summa y'all will volunteer to teach/lead tables.  Each game plays up to 4 so I'll up the attendance limit accordingly.

I love this game. I need to sit in front of a mancala for a while and practice counting but I love this game :)

FOOD: In addition to apples, nuts and varieties of tea, I'll offer a sampling of half sandwiches featuring peanut/ cashew/ almond nut butters and apple/ raspberry/ strawberry/ TJ's "super fruit" jams, probably on Dave's Killer 21 grain bread. //// Feel free to bring food contributions, but please no desserts or alcohol.

RSVPs, be sure to note that first dibs on 6pm Trajan game go to Heather, Deanna, Mistalyn, & Kristin. The rest are in line for a 7pm game ('cuz that's when the other 2 teachers will arrive). Quickie filler games will be on hand. /// If you're cat allergic, you'll want to try for a game on the hardwood-ed main floor (and the best way to do that is to arrive early or announce it here).

I have another copy of Trajan if you want to open up a second table... I could also teach, but as usual, won't be able to get here til at least 7

I was so hoping you'd offer! I'll try co-mingling different start times on the same event page as an experiment. /// First dibs on 6pm game: Heather, Deanna, Mistalyn, Kristin. /// Gayle, Pat (and whomever follows) can entertain selves until Dian arrives, around 7-ish.

You are totally going to want to buy this game, although it might be quite a stretch for middle-school-aged kids.

FYI Trajan today's sale of the day at CoolStuffInc.com for $36. If you buy $100 worth of stuff S&H is free, but even if you pay S&H it's still cheaper than $56 from Amazon.com or $70 MSRP at Guardian. http://www.coolstuffinc.com/page/1175
