The great contemporary philosopher, Yogi Berra, once said: “If you don’t know where you’re going, you may not get there.” Getting started in cohousing can be a dizzying affair: finding others, design, money, zoning, PR, time, energy, social capital, legal issues, ... o my! You can easily lose your way! Plan to attend the Cohousing 101 Overview Workshop Saturday, Nov. 14 from Noon to 3:00 p.m. This workshop is intended for folks familiar with cohousing as well as those who are looking for the next steps to take on the pathway to cohousing. In this three hour intensive session we will look at what it takes to build not just a home but a whole community. You will come away with an understanding of the complexities of the development process and an appreciation of the critical decision-making and communication skills needed to bring your dream to reality. We will start with a facilitated discussion on your vision of living in cohousing. We will look at the interrelationships of the many tasks in the six broad categories of the development process: design, finance, legal, outreach, community building/social capital, and development. Through a guided “hands on” process, you will understand the sequence and relationship of tasks, decisions, and thresholds so vital in the development process. And, you will learn the basics of “development speak” so you can talk to the pros! You are invited to attend, if you are just beginning your cohousing journey, if you’re starting your own group, or if you’re thinking about what the next steps are now that you’ve decided you want to live in cohousing. We welcome you! To sign up, please call Ann Zabaldo at 703 663 3911. |
