Blue Ridger Backwards, **CANCELLED**

RIDE LEADERS ARE CANCELLING THIS EVENT:

"This may well turn out to be an Elphaba call but with afternoon rain coming in from the west, today's Blue Ridger Backwards is canceled. Were it a route without sweeping downhills or in an area with easy shortcuts back, we'd take a chance but Janice and I think it wise to follow Rudi's decision. Geng's ride from LAV has no precipitous downhills and a myriad of shortcuts and will likely be a more prudent choice if you're itching to ride."

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION

Join Ruth & Janice on this gloriously beautiful club classic that includes some favorite climbs, including the strenous 10-mile Mount Weather. This route is a real treat for the physically fit. The climbs are challenging, but riders are richly rewarded with beautiful views. The ride leaders have collaborated to cycle around with gaiety, gusto, & gumption. The average pace will vary from 14 to 18 mph, but everyone is invited to grab a cue and ride at your own pace.  Reststop at Mile 31. Bring your granny gear!

The ride leaders are:

Ruth Sheridan [[masked]][masked] &
Janice Stoodley [[masked]][masked]

If the weather is iffy, they are the main point of contact to determine if the ride is on.   We will also try to post that info here.

Directions:

From Beltway Exit-49, take I-66 west 36 miles to Exit-28 (Bus US-17 Marshall/Warrenton). Go north 0.7 miles on Bus US-17 / Winchester Rd into Marshall. Cross VA-55 / Main St at traffic light ( Bus US-17 becomes VA-710) and turn left / west in 0.1 miles onto Salem Ave. Continue a few blocks to a right on Frost Ave toward the swimming pool next to VDOT Commuter Lot.

That ended up being a good call on canceling the ride. I rode out the W&OD out towards Purcelleville and got rained on pretty hard when I got to rt 9 & rt 7 at about 11:30am. Turned around and spent the rest of the ride racing the rain home.

It's a gorgeous ride and you'd likely enjoy it a treat but please check the Potomac Pedalers website tomorrow morning before leaving.
If there's a substantial chance of rain, we'll cancel. We'd hedge our bets on a flat or rolling ride but these descents could be difficult on wet roads.

It's a 90-minute drive for me, so please update as soon as possible (iff you can). Thanks!

I am not the world's most enthusiastic/gifted climber , but still think this would be a beautiful ride. I'm very B avg 15 mph on rolling hills. No clue how I'd be on Mt. Weather. Should I join you? Or wait for a different first ride w this group.

Please! Will another "B" rider be there?

Tom, Jeffrey, Janice and I think Erica will keep a strict B pace. Likely most of the others too-the Alpha dogs will all be off on greg's ride.

Ruth and Janice; a delightful, dynamic duo.

Hopefully I will catch you next time. I'll be in church all day Sunday so that kinda blows my riding day.
