C/CC* 38 MILES* Sugarloaf Scenic* Poolesville MD

Sugarloaf Scenic 38. A repeat of this popular ride, but with an expanded route of 10 extra miles over flat to rolling terrain. We start from Poolesville High School and take a scenic route south to River Road and then northwest around to Dickerson, traveling back roads mostly. Two ride leaders for C and CC. No drops. After a rest stop at the Dickerson Store, we continue north past Sugarloaf Mountain and the historic Comus Inn to Peach Tree Road. From there we ride the full six miles of Peach Tree, a quiet rolling descent down into Poolesville via Cattail Road. Moderately hilly but with no steep climbs, this is a great ride for any C/CC rider. After ride meal option at Cafe 107, 1/2 mile from the school if group wants--let's eat! The start is Poolesville High School, 17501 Willard Rd, Poolesville, MD, 20837. Come early, we leave on time.

Martine is leading C, Vic CC.

And thanks to Vic who took the time to ride the route in advance, and find out we needed to work in a detour. You guys are great!

Aside from the off and on rain showers, this was an awesome ride! We followed some of the best back roads in the area. Special thanks to Linda and TJ as C ride leaders, and to Komkit for the great photos.

Great ride with wonderful people. The only problem was the pouring rain for a long stretch. Looking forward to doing another ride.

Chance of showers is down to 20-30% depending on which forecast one is watching, SO THE RIDE IS ON FOR THIS MORNING! See you there.

If this is a go and given the temp (high of 79) is it wise to wear long sleeves or a jacket? Not sure about sun and wind and riding upcounty.

  • Diane l.

    Is the ride still on?

    June 20, 2014

    • Komkit L.

The boss probably post GO/NO GO in the morning. Right now the forecast is hovering between 50-60% chance depending which weather service site you go to.

If it looks like it will be rained out, we'll post on Meetup and the PPTC website tonite. And we will reschedule!!

However, I keep my hopes up.

We have made a slight change to the route for this ride, since a section of Peach Tree Road is under construction and covered in gravel. We will be returning from Comus Road via Slidell, a beautiful winding back road - should be fun! Find the cue sheet and GPS course at: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5052147

I plan on leaving from Burtonsville at 7:30am if anyone wants to join or needs a ride. My rack can hold a total of 3 bikes.

    June 17, 2014

Hey, we can ALL be the sweep--that will be interesting.

    1 · June 16, 2014

Martine: I will most likely be in the back so I can be your C sweep. I promise to get there before 8:30 am! Linda

Hi Kim, welcome to the Potomac Pedalers Meetup! We are a fun group, cyclists of all skill levels, and we like to eat after our rides. Looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks you for the welcome. I look forward meeting you and enjoying rides.

Hi, I am looking for someone to do or alternate the " sweep" on the C level. I will be in the middle between the lead CC and the C levels to make sure we don't get any drops. I find it better to have 3 "leads" on a ride. The sweep is the most important role.

What kind of terrain is this? Asphalt? Crushed stone? I just need to know which bike to bring. Thanks.

    June 10, 2014

    • Martine

      This is paved, moderate hills.

      June 16, 2014

    June 14, 2014
