PPTC's Maryland Spring Century - 50, 75 or 101 miles

Please join us on Saturday, May 12, for the Maryland Spring Century, one of Potomac Pedalers' most popular club events. Routes of 50, 75 and 101 miles through scenic Howard and Carroll Counties are lightly traveled, and the terrain rolling to hilly. The course will leave Fulton Park & Ride (MD Rts 29 & 216) and head into Lisbon. Once at the Lisbon rest stop (another Park & Ride) – optional loops are available before returning to Fulton.

PPTC will provide some refreshments at Lisbon as well as have both 700 X 23 tubes and floor pumps on hand.  The Lisbon rest stop menu will include water, Gatorade, and quality foods such as bagels and cream cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and for the century riders – ham or turkey sandwiches. There is no charge for the ride but we encourage you to bring a snack (leave at sign-in) that can be shared during or after the ride. Your favorite ride treats such as cookies, nuts, chips, brownies, or fruit would be welcomed. In addition, the Fulton and Lisbon Park & Ride locations are surrounded by grocery stores, gas stations, etc. No one should ride hungry! Port-a-pots, this year, will be available at both Fulton and Lisbon Park & Ride locations.

Last year, we raised over $100 for the Scaggsville Fire and Rescue Department. Again, we will be supporting a worthy cause by collecting donations for Steve Lafferty's daughter's college fund. Steve, a member of the PPTC family, recently passed away due to injuries sustained during a Reston bicycle club ride. A charity box will be available post ride.

For those of you who like to head out “solo”– show and go between 7:30am and 8:00am. If you want to join up with a ride leader – departure is at 8:00am.

Rain Date is Sunday, May 13th.

And of course…volunteers are always needed - contact Johanna Nathanson [masked] if you can assist with rest stop or post-ride duty.

@Denise, I see there are no cue sheets on the peddlars site, can we pick them up at the start?

Thanks for your note, Claudia. We're expecting somewhere between 150 and 200 riders at the century. Groups will start with leaders who will lead according to pace, but riders tend to sort out themselves out during the ride. With such a large number of riders, you are likely to find several people to ride with. If you're comfortable with the distances offered tomorrow, I encourage you to give it a try. I'll be roaming the parking lot before the ride start. Please come up and say hello!

You should cross post this ride in the B'king in Baltimore Meetup Group...there probably lots of folks in that group who would enjoy doing this ride. Probably a bit too late for that now, but for future rides, may want to consider

If anyone resides in NW DC and wants a ride, let me know. I have room for one more. Note: I will be doing the full century at a BB pace and plan to stay afterward for awhile to socialize with others.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
