I really enjoy the roads around Frederick, MD, for the lack of traffic and the scenery. A perfect ride is around 40 miles (plus or minus 15 miles for hills or lack of hills) with a coffee/smoothie break in the middle. You've had a perfect ride when you know you've earned the beers you drink after the ride!
I ride a Specialized Cross Bike - currently with 700x28 Gatorskin tires. It was selected to do well on both road and bike paths.
I always do.
Depending on the day, route, and companions, my speedometer shows averages between 14 and 17mph. I do enjoy being able to carry on some conversations while riding as well as indulge in the occasional efforts that leave me a little short of breath.
I took up cycling a few years ago for weight and fitness reasons.
Well-organized. However, too many Potomac Pedaler riders are ill-mannered and insist on riding 3 abreast when "Car Back" is called.
