Don Maeyer is leading this trip on the Cacapon River. Fish on Saturday (June 28) with the option to stay overnight and leave Sunday morning (see below). The put-in is about a two hour drive from Woodbridge, VA in a private, gated subdivision located just 10 miles inside the West Virginia line off Route 522 north of Winchester, VA.
Full directions and a code to open the gate of the subdivision will be provided about a week before the float.
The Cacapon is about the same size as the North Fork Shenandoah River with a few more rock gardens. Because the Cacapon can't support that many boats, there are two float options on Friday and Saturday – so make sure you sign up for the right Meetup event, because there are four to choose from.
Trip Options (Choose One)
• Trip 1: 3 mile float with a good mix of fast and calm stretches.
• Trip 2: Put-in about at another launch site that is off road and allows anglers to go upstream 1/2 mile to fish some nice ledges and pools. Then float back down 1/2 mile to where the first group started.
Don is graciously offering the use of his cabin if you would like to stay overnight and avoid the long drive home after a full day of fishing. There are four beds, or you can camp in the yard or sleep on the screened porch on an air mattress. There is a spare refrigerator for food. Coffee and cold cereal will be available for breakfast, and hotdogs on the grill in the evening (or anything else you want to bring to grill). And yes, there is a full indoor bathroom!
