4 mile hike on south side of Lake Hodges

Same plan as the previous night, except hiking instead of trail running:

Hey Everyone,

This should be about a 4-mile hike along the south side of Lake Hodges. There isn't a huge amount of elevation gain, but there a fair amount of up and down, with a small amount of rock scrambling, and a few places where there's a steep drop-off on the side of the trail. All along the way, you have excellent views of Lake Hodges, and you get to at least see the dam, although I haven't found a way to actually get to the dam.

What I'd like to do is meet at the end-point of the hike, and leave half the cars there, then car pool in the other half of the cars to the beginning of the run. Then we'll do the hike and carpool back to the beginning of the run to pick up the cars we left there.

This is a dog-friendly area, although dogs are required to be on-leash.  However, since we'll be car-pooling from one end to the other, you'll need to arrange with someone else to make sure that they're willing to transport your dog.

The end of the run, where we'll meet, is in 4-S Ranch at 17925 Alva Rd (actually, we'll meet a little past this). Here is the google map location:

And where we'll drop the cars off for the beginning of the hike is on Poblado Rd in Rancho Bernardo:

Hope to see everyone there.

Too bad the May Gray washed out the colors. Kept us cool tho.

I think everyone had a good time on this hike, although it was more difficult than some were expecting, and they might have been cursing me a little under their breath. :)

Anyway, I had a great time. It's probably my favorite hike in this area, and I want to thank everyone for sharing it with me.

My phone crashed halfway through the hike, so I don't have a GPS track for the hike, and I don't have any pictures. For those of you who took pictures, please consider posting them to this group. In addition to just wanting to see them, I think they would be good pictures to use as the background image for this web page.

Next weekend's hikes will be easier, I promise. :)

It was a great hike, a bit challenging at times, some steeper areas with some loose dirt and rocks, but with spectacular views of Lake Hodges. All in all definitely worth it.

Yes, but I'm not sure what time. I'm at Alva rd. right now.and only two other people are here. I usually give people about 10 minutes to show up.

    Hi Everyone,

I dropped something on my toe yesterday and it's turning black and blue! I've been debating going - I decided that I should pass since I don't know the terrain (yet!) and don't want to make it too much worse! I was looking forward to meeting everyone and checking out a new hike - have fun and sorry for the late notice!

Sounds like a cool hike hopefully you'll set it up again as were unable to make it to this one since Jason is running the RAR half. Have fun and beware of the bikers. ;)
