We'll hike from IKEA (great place for coffee or lunch after the hike!!) along the Thundering Bison Trail into the FortWhyte Alive trail system. Our 'out and back' route including a loop bordering Lake Cargill and the bison enclosure on the FortWhyte Alive trails will give us a 8.25 km hike.
The Thundering Bison Trail is a relatively new multi-use pathway that runs east / west parallel to Sterling Lyon Parkway and connects up with Waverley on the east and the Harte Trail to the west.
FortWhyte Alive - is a rural oasis inside the city. Winnipeg’s award-winning 640-acre nature centre showcases a prairie bison herd, five lakes, seven km of forest trails and floating wetland boardwalks, biodiversity garden, Prairie Dog Town, Prairie Partners burrowing owl exhibit, Planet H2O exhibit, touch museum, Aquarium of the Prairies, family tree house, birdfeeding stations, Pioneer Sod House, Tipi Encampment, Nature Shop, and Buffalo Stone Café.
This event is open to Prairie Pathfinder walking club members (i.e. members who have paid an annual $25. fee) and guests. CONTACT US to request a complimentary invitation and try out the club 'for free'. Everyone is welcome to try out a hike or two before deciding to purchase a membership. Visit our website HERE.
