Revive the group: Who's in?

Hello Everyone!

After some time out of state I'm back in PDX. I was surprised to see our group had "closed!" I'd love for us to revitalize it and make it active and fun once again.

I spoke with Ken (owns the group) and he's swamped, so I'm going to try and help out.

Looks like we lost our meeting space. Any ideas on a new location? It would be super wonderful if we could find a place that won't charge us.

I look forward to seeing everyone again. Maybe we'll just have to arrange another happy hour to get reacquainted and say hello to new faces.

Thanks!!!
Matt

I was there... but it wasn't what I thought. It was a bit too loud, cramped, and busy for me. I want to connect with everyone but in a more personal way. I'll keep an eye out for when a quieter setting comes around... or- maybe I'll create one. I hope it went well.

Brett, I was not able to go but sorry to hear! We sued to have meetups like this a lot when the Portland Preparedness center hosted us. Now, we just need a good place!!!

I definitely want to reconnect with everyone! Miss you all! Wednesdays are booked for me, so I won't be able to attend anything on those evenings. :( Tax season is coming up soon, and you all know what that means for me and Dah Hubz! But hoping to squeeze in something! We'll have Sunday evenings (anything after 5:30pm!) off for sure!!

Last night's meet up was great. So good to see some people from our previous group and meet new people. I'm looking forward to Sunday night's movie. Be sure and let me know the final arrangements. Hope to see you all soon.

Yes! So sorry I forgot: I'll wear a bright red "Red Ass Ale" tee shirt. I'm sure I'll get there early and will sit at the bar so I'm easy to locate. Thanks!

Matt, is there anything we should look for tomorrow? Will you be in a particular location? Sure I will figure it out.

    See you all tomorrow!

Thanks for the replies everyone: we're making progress!

When we first met - about a year or so ago - we met at the Cheerful Tortoise. I don't think that fits the bill as family friendly.

Does anyone know of a place that would work for families?

Love to hear some recommendations and we'll get something booked.

    Thanks!
    Matt

Maybe a pizza place, like Round Table or something? They are usually pretty family friendly and sometimes have meeting rooms for free if people agree to eat there.

Wish I could make it, but I only have Sundays/Mondays free now. :( Missing the group!

So glad you are starting the group up again. I've really missed it.

    All,

This is just a one-time meeting to discuss the group, etc, it's not a recurring event so don't worry if you can't make it. We'll have another one soon that may be easier for some, so hang in there!

    Thanks,
    Matt

Can't make it. I work 'till 8 on Wednesdays.

I would be interested in the group if we were more family friendly. My husband is a long haul truck driver so I usually have the kids with me. My kids are 12, 9 & 6. Alecia, my 12 year old daughter would love to help watch your son. She loves babies and toddlers. I am not sure if this week will work but we would like to start coming.

We would really like to come but middle of the week things are difficult with a little one and it's a long drive from Newberg.

The 27th doesn't work for me. I also think it's a better idea to give people the chance to watch the show ahead of time if you want to have a discussion about it.

I'm not sure about Portland for family friendly places except maybe Kennedy School Mcmenimins in NE Portland or Papa Pizza on 158th in Beaverton which has lots of tables where we can talk and an indoor play structure inside. Thanks Matt for getting this going :)

Thanks for the suggestions! I was also thinking of the Laurelwood but the location in NE on Sandy. Preferences?

Love the American Blackout idea! When I was a kid we lost power for 'only' a week and it was awful! Location to watch and discuss could be tough. Lets discuss during our pub meeting. Let's give some others time to chime in on a pub location and I'll post the location, date, and time.
    Thanks!!!

I would like to suggest one of our meet ups to be on October 27th so we all can watch and discuss the premier of American Blackout. Google national geographic american blackout for the trailer.

A couple of suggestions, those with kids chime in, I don't know what's best for you:

    The Laurelwood (Sellwood area)
    http://laurelwoodbrewpub.com/locations-menus/se-portland-1/

    Lucky Lab
    http://luckylab.com/locations/
Hawthorne allows minors until 9PM, Multnomah Village until 10PM.

My wife and I are new to the group and are interested in meeting more preppers to learn and share with. We are unable to meet on Fridays due to other schedule conflicts though.

    October 15, 2013

I also am new and like the family friendly pub idea. My family is prepper tolerant but I'd really like to meet some other preppers to talk to.

Thanks for reaching out, Matt. I have not yet met with the group, and am interested. Perhaps a low-key family friendly pub? Does anyone have preferences for this? Portland, close to downtown is good for me M-F.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
