I live in South City - I can see Tower Grove Park from my front porch. I found Primal Living STL just by searching the meetup page - most of our friends are vegans, and no one we know exercises at ALL, so I was hoping to find some people to talk paleo/primal living with!
I first got interested in the paleo/primal diet initially when a nurse at our fertility clinic suggested I might be insulin resistant and recommended that I get on a lower-carbohydrate diet. After three years of veganism I was feeling very run down and was ready to try something radically different, and I had already heard of the paleo/primal diet from working at an organic food co-op where we sold some locally-made paleo products. A co-worker of mine introduced me to Mark's Daily Apple when I mentioned I was interested in eating primally, and that was that!
Sharing recipes and knowledge!
I have spent my entire adult life as a vegetarian, and most of my childhood as well. Thus, I have NO IDEA how to cook meat. I am currently following the 'heat it up until it's safe to eat' method, but I know there has to be more of an art to it than that. I was always considered an excellent cook when I made vegan meals, but now I can't invite people over for dinner anymore because I'm so clueless with animal products! I'm also in god-awful shape - I'm hoping crossfit will improve that, but I am still finding it very, very intimidating.
Adding in more excercise and outdoor activity - I'd also like to do a Whole 30 challenge sometime soon!
My husband & I started eating primally about two months ago after three years of veganism (& several years of vegetarianism before that) & are LOVING it! We've also started working out at Crossfit Gambit in Soulard recently - only 4 workouts so far.
