BROAD RIVER TRAIL///NOTE TIME CHANGES!!!

Third times the charm! PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGES.

We'll be hiking Broad River Trail in Russell Wildlife Management on Sunday, December 29 at 10:30 AM... A CHANCE TO HIKE OFF SOME OF THOSE HOLIDAY GOODIES!

This is a moderate to easy 4 mile hike along the beautiful cascading Dick's Creek. It then winds thru the wooded coves and hillsides along the Broad River. The woods are open and the trail sometimes passes thru stands of rhododendron and mountain laurel. Since this is a point to point trail, we would like to leave a car (or several depending upon how many attend) at the further end of the trail, about 3 miles on down FR 87. By the time we get this set up, it could be 11:00 before we start the hike. It takes about 3 hours, not including a rest stop and/or picture taking. You may want to bring something to snack on.

The entrance to Russell Wildlife Management Area is about 6 miles southwest of Toccoa on US Hwy 123. From Cornelia it is 11 miles on US 123 to Ayersville Rd. Turn onto Ayersville Rd at a large PATTERSON PUMP CO (2129 Ayersville Rd, Toccoa, Ga) sign. Go about one mile on Ayersville Rd to Forest Rd. 87/Guard Camp Rd, a dirt road on your left. There is a small Checking Station sign here. The Checking Station is not too far down FR 87 on your left. Meet us in the parking lot at 10:30 AM.

If you would like to follow us to RWM, meet us at Interstate 85 exit 166 (Carnesville) at 10:00. There is a gas station (Hess) next to a Wendy's. Please let us know if we are meeting you there. Thanks, Sharon

This was the location for the first hike I had with this group, the beginning of many adventures on Sundays and sometimes other times. What a difference between then and now. It was the middle of summer then, and we were rained on, a welcome relief. Today felt like a spring day up north, just after the snow has melted, but the leaves have not started coming out. The sun was bright, the temperature was just right, sometimes the air was still, other times a breeze to cool us off.

Alan, Bill and I had a great and companionable hike on what turned out to be a perfect day. We waited for a half hour but no one else showed. Sorry if anyone came later and we missed you. Thanks Judy for letting me know you weren't coming. All the rain the night before had Dick's Creek rushing high and wide across the rocks and tumbling in white and wild falls that were actually thundering in some places. I'd never seen it like this before. Gorgeous! The sun warmed the air, the breezes turned balmy and felt more like spring than December! Unfortunately, no cameras with us. Looking forward to our New Year's get together. See you soon!

Weather.com says rain will be light before it ends, and probably not raining at 11:30. High in the low 60's

Hi everyone! I've been watching the weather for Sunday. It is now calling for 90% all night and continuing until until 11:00 when it will drop to 40% until 1:00. partly cloudy and 0% after that. Low 50's. We could start an hour later and bring our umbrellas in case of a 40% rain drop or two... Input welcome. I'd sure like to hike!

Right now, Sunday's weather forecast is 71 degrees, 90% rain with heavy thunderstorms. Final decision posted Saturday. Doesn't look too promising. If I don't see you Sunday, have a beautiful holiday with lost of joy and peace, and all the really good stuff!

Anyone offering a ride there from Athens?
I would only need one if temps are reasonable :)

I'm sorry, but not going to make it. A close friend arrives from out of town that day and cannot attend the hike at that time. Another time for sure!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
