Located 8 miles northeast of Elberton off Ga. Hwy. 77 on Ruckersville Road.
Park at the Lakeside Pavilion near the golf course. We will head out promptly at 11:00 on the Blackwell Rridge Trail. It  follows the shoreline to one of the oldest steel pin bridges in the area, loops through the adjoining woods and returns to the beach. There are 4.3 miles of connecting trails of easy hiking. $5.00 parking fee. There is a park map on the park web page.

The controversial  Guidestones are about 20 minutes from the park. You may want to join us after the hike in exploring this phenomenon.

“When Man Reawakens, Let Him Behold…”

The Georgia  Guidestones are a strange collection of standing stones  near the remote  town of Elberton, Georgia. At once a Rosetta Stone,  an astronomical  observatory, and a road map for rebuilding  civilization, the Guidestones  seem to be built as much for the  survivors of a post-apocalyptic future  as for the thousands of tourists  who visit them each year.  Built in 1980, they are primarily composed of six  slabs of granite: one  central pillar, four “major” stones that fan out  from the center, and a  capstone. The capstone has engravings on all four  of its sides in four  different ancient languages, all of which read,  “Let these be  guidestones to an Age of Reason,” when translated.  The  major stones  are each engraved on both sides, and each side contains  text in one of  eight modern languages asserting the same ten guidelines.

“And standing with the stones is a mystery — a mystery of who is behind the erection of The Georgia Guidestones.  Their identity is intended to be a secret forever.”

Thanks Jill! The section titled The Beginning is very interesting and informative The Purpose was definitely thought provoking! I hope to complete the rest by Sunday in order to have some understanding of the ideas behind this massive piece of human creativity.

    just a heads up:
When we saw them a few years ago, they were covered in graffitti. looked like a place where local teens go to party.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
