Cold Process Soap Making

A recent secondary source (Maine 1995) gives the earliest claims for known historic use of soap.

"The first known written mention of soap was on Sumerian clay tablets dating about 2500 BC. They were found in the area of the Tigris and Euphrates river. The tablets spoke of the use of soap in the washing of wool. Another Sumerian tablet, dating 2200 BC, describes a `soap' [this author's `..'] formulation of water, alkali and cassia oil. The Ebers Papyrus, a medical document from about 1500 BC, shows evidence that Egyptians bathed regularly and that they combined animal and vegetable oils with alkaline salts to create a soap-like (sic) substance for washing. (Maine 1995)"

I will send my address via private email to those who are attending.

Please add yourself to the wait list, if I already know you well, I will add you to the RSVP msyelf.  If I haven't met you before, or perhaps only once or twice. You can have an opportunity to meet me atLincoln Coffee on the  14th Aug prior to this meetup and introduce yourself to me and let me know you have signed up for the wait list.

Only people I have met will be invited into my home, hope you understand.

I will be making the soap and everyone will be able to watch with some participation, and everyone will leave with some sample soaps to take with them. :)

I will be limiting the class size to 4 (not including myself) so that everyone can see and participate in the process. If there is more interest I will post another class. :)

Ok folks asked me how much it cost to make this soap. And estimating the shipping cost into the batch it cost about $39 for that entire batch of soap! 148 oz. (weight) of soap so for a 3 oz bar it was .80 cents per bar of soap wholesale :) Not bad!! and you get what you want, and you know exactly what went into it.

Also, you should be able to pop your soaps out of their molds now, and allow to continue to cure in the open air for at least another week before using. The longer they cure the longer they will last while using.
