Propagation Work at the Elderberry Farms Native Plant Nursery

Posting this because native plants are important and vital to our purpose. This is a third party event, please contact phone number or email listed below to sign up and for information and cancellations. Thanks!

Propagation Work at the Nursery Every Wednesday 10:00 - 2:00

Brian Robin Barbara Robert Jim Chris Tony Myra Alex Jan[masked]x[masked]x150

(except: no Workday on Dec. 25th or Jan.1st)

Rain - We all LOVE the Rain!  If the rain is steady, we may cancel a Workday.  If the rain is very light or intermittent, we will have a workday - likely in our Greenhouse!  Phone Chris to see if weather has cancelled our Workday:[masked]-2876.

Join a Propagation Workday during the winter is often in our cozy Greenhouse.  We pot up seedlings and learn various propagating techniques under the excellent direction of Robin Rietz, Propagation Manager. We treat volunteers to Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches (you're also welcome to bring your own lunch)! RSVP to Chris, via email: cnpschris(AT)

The nursery is operated entirely by volunteers from Sacramento Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS). Volunteers are always encouraged to become members of CNPS (of course!) but membership is not required to volunteer.

Our plants are sold at at the Fall Plant Sale in McKinley Park each September, Soil Born events and at Wildflower Wonders in the Spring. We also sell plants as time permits during our weekly Wednesday Workdays and our once monthly Sunday Workday (checks preferred).

We are located on the American River Parkway at Soil Born Farms' American River Ranch, 2140 Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova. Winter workdays are often inside our Greenhouse so that we can work rain or shine! Try us out! - Chris Lewis, Robin Rietz, Betsy Weiland, Jim Wadsworth, Alex Morton, Nursery Leaders

We also work in our demonstration gardens on Wednesdays.  These are small sized landscapes that show others how to effectively use native plants in their own landscape. We need the help of community volunteers to maintain them. Please bring gloves and water. Tools and Snacks will be provided.  Also Soil Born Farms’ wildlife-friendly hedgerows in the crop fields are an example of conservation-based agriculture.  These require special attention sometimes.  Let me know if this interests you.
