Please take a moment to read our short rules!
Overview and Rules:
We have been around for SIX years, and over 700 events! Yep, we have a proven track record, and that's because of the diversity of our events, and because I do lots of research to find events that are off the beaten track, cultural, fun, sometimes free, and always interesting! Many are not publicized through mainstream media. This is one of the reasons why we are a private group. This means no one outside our group can see our events, calendar, or members' names.
Rule #1: The first thing you should know is that we have a photo policy. If you don't have a photo of yourself attached to your Meetup profile, you won't be admitted to the group. (That means no cats, dogs, boats, monuments, flowers, etc.).
Rule #2: You must also have a valid name on your Meetup account, not things like "Dragon Lady" or "Rover's Dad." You don't need to post your full name, and I actually encourage you not to. But please put your first name up there, and if it's a common one, add a last initial, i.e., Jane D.
OUR MEMBERSHIP: This is a great group and eclectic mix of men and women, single or married, of all cultures, walks of life, and ages... from 25 to 70! And while we are not a "singles" group, per se, several relationships and many wonderful friendships have been born here! We have evolved into the MOST wonderful group over these years, and we've made a great number of friendships! We have a diverse schedule of activities, and each brings forth an interesting collection of personality! We have between six and 35 people at our meetups depending on the activity. Most of them average about 15 people, and there is no "clique" so you will fit in (and be welcomed) right away, and meet different people at every event. What brings us together is our love of movies, but we also have all kinds of other events (keep reading) on our very full calendar!
Movies: Film-wise, this group gives us the opportunity to screen a diverse selection of current, classic, notable, and memorable films in commercial venues, private venues, dining venues, film festivals, libraries, and screening rooms. It also provides a nice social environment to eat, chat and laugh, and an opportunity to discuss afterwards the films we see.
Other activities: We also add to our schedule live performances, theater, comedy shows, concerts, readings, dining events, game nights, girls' outings, and other cultural activities that we find interesting for our group. If you have any suggestions, please email us!
***WHAT WE ARE NOT: We are NOT a dating club, a singles club, a happy hour meetup, a drinking club, or a hanging at a bar club. If we go to a Happy Hour, you can be sure it ties into a theme we are celebrating, or there's a great film following it.
Do not rate our events based on how you liked a movie. We have NO control over how you will personally like a film. Your star ratings serve as a measurement of how you liked the organization or management of an event. It helps the organizing staff be better at what they do.
Also, it is almost never necessary to RSVP "No" to events - we'd appreciate only the "Yes" responses. There is no reason for us to know if you are NOT attending an event, unless you are changing a Yes to a No. Please understand that each time you click on "No," each organizer gets two emails. It just clogs up our email accounts and they are unnecessary and frustrating.
MONEY - $1.00: Instead of imposing a Membership fee to help pay for the Meetup.com costs, we request that each attendee throw in a dollar at each event you attend. Meetup.com now charges the organizer $200 per year for the use of the meetup site. We just want to cover our operating costs and expenses.
MONEY - Donations: You may have noticed that in 2015, Meetup.com is asking all its members to DONATE money to their favorite groups. This donation idea is from Meetup.com, not the organizers. Meetup has now set up a way for members to help out the organizers, but they also keep a percentage of the donated money. If you would like to donate to our group (as a few of our perceptive, understanding and generous members have), please do so to my email address within the Paypal system.
WE ARE A NON-SMOKING, SMOKE-FREE GROUP!
