Housing for All

Is safe and affordable housing a basic human right? Why does New York City have vacant lots, empty buildings, yet thousands have no place to call home? What should be done when both government and the private sector fail to provide adequate accommodation? Veteran housing activist Frank Morales shares his experiences of helping those in need.

Reverend Frank Morales is an activist on housing issues and lectures on urban issues at Parson The New School for Design.

Great seminar. Frank Morales was both inspiring and informative. I look forward to working with him in the future.

Recently my Mother passed at the age of 81...I lived in her Housing Apt. while she had been in a nursing home. I kept up the rent for years because the S.S.I. she received went ALL to her care at the nursing home. Now that the Housing Authority knows that she has passed on, they tell me I have to move or they will remove me. They say the reason being she did not add me to the lease. My question: Is That Legal? Also can I do something about this action?

Hi, Please accept my condolences on the passing of your mother. The issue that you raised is probably not new, but you should ask a lawyer. There are some resources on housing.nyc.gov.
