I'm glad people enjoyed themselves despite the so-called "beginner" East Coast Swing lesson...which I consider a disaster. I've seen this couple teach before; and they consistently present material that is NOT beginner material. It was clear people were struggling, and dropping out from frustration, and they just kept plowing ahead, rather than adjusting. In addition to not teaching classic East Coast Swing, which is very easy to pick up and the perfect beginner dance, they were teaching Lindy (more difficult) -- and some intermediate moves that took me months to "get" in my Lindy class. I felt bad for the people who were non-dancers or new, truly beginner dancers. If there's interest, I can suggest a good beginning West Coast Swing lesson/dance -- with an EXCELLENT teacher -- next month.

    Hi Michael

I keep waffling, flip-flopping, and pancake-ing. These dances are fun but bring back visions of junior high. I know, I know, I'm scarred for life. Will try to push my more mature self out the door but for the purposes of your RSVP, I'm a maybe. If I come, will arrive about 7:30 to try and get in on the dance lesson and maybe get a chance to chat with the Meetup group.

Thanks for your honesty, Ronnie-Jane! I know what you mean - it took me quite awhile to feel comfortable and have fun out on the dance floor. My suggestion would be to not worry about it, just come with the intention of having fun and meeting some new and interesting people. Especially if you come for the lesson, you should find lots of others who have never done swing dance before, and you'll have some ready-made partners who are at the same level when the live music starts! But perhaps you've done swing dancing before.

P.S. If you come at around 7:30, you'll beat the crowd, be able to chat with me (and perhaps others) for a bit before the lesson starts, and help me save seats for the others.

    Dear Swing-Dancers,

Looking forward to seeing all of you tonight! Please confirm by email ([masked]) whether or not you will be at Ashkenaz tonight, and tell me whether you plan to show up between 7:30 - 8:00 for the beginners' lesson (starts at 8:00 p.m.), or a little before 9:00 p.m. (when the live music begins, and the fun continues!). That way, I will know whether or not to reserve a place for you at our table(s). After you enter Ashkenaz and pay, turn to your right, pass the snack bar on your right, go across the dance floor, to your right and you'll see some tables in front of the windows. Look for the "Progressive Singles" sign on one of the tables. If no one is at the table, please sign in, and join us on the dance floor (in that case, probably the lesson - or the live music - already has begun, and we'll meet after the lesson, or before the next song (depending upon what time you are arriving!)

Thanks to Wendy for her suggestions and musical contribution!

I suggest getting there at 7:30 to grab one of the tables (maybe push a couple of the square ones together, if possible, since the small round ones accommodate only 2-3 people). Stompy Jones is likely to attract a large crowd and you won't get a table after the lesson, when the performance gets under way.

It can get loud in this small place. I advise bringing ear plugs.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
