This is a follow up to last month's Meetup event during which we showed the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car," a documentary detailing the efforts of General Motors (GM) efforts to remove the EV1 electrical vehicle from the market. To the dismay of consumers, GM refused to sell the EV1 to customers who'd been leasing the model, going so far as to crush the cars that consumers were requesting to purchase.

This month, as we watch the fate of GM unfold, we will be showing Michael Moore's historical 1989 documentary "Roger and Me." The issue of GM and how it has treated its workers and the town of Flint is an issue close to the heart of Michael Moore. His entire family worked for GM. His father worked for the plant for 33 years.

ROGER AND ME

This film documents the effects of the decision of GM to outsource its workforce to Mexico, effectively turning Michael Moore’s hometown of Flint, Michigan, into a ghost town. The richest company in the world at the time, GM closed 11 plants, laying off 30,000 employees, while it was making profits in the billions.

In his quest to discover why GM would want to do such a thing, Moore attempts to meet the chairman, Roger Smith, and invite him out for a few beers in Flint to talk things over. In between watching Moore’s efforts to see Smith, we’ll take a bizarre journey through Flint accompanied along the way by Ronald Reagan, Miss America, Pat Boone, Bob "Newlywed Game" Eubanks, and TV evangelist Robert Schuller.
