Hi! I'm new to the world of paddling - I recently acquired a Hobie Adventure Island (tandem) - would this event be a good one for this type of Kayak?

It would be cool to paddle downtown Milwaukee!

Do we out in by horny goat ? Where are we unloading and parking?

    August 20

    • Nate D.

You can park in their lot. If you walk past the entrance to the outside dining area, there is a gate and a ramp down to the dock. We can put in there. If you need to unload close, there is a spot right in front of the building that you can get your boat down from the car and then go park.

We might make it. The problem is that we'll just have gotten back from a 5 day family reunion (7 grands & 6 adults in 2, 2 bedroom townhouses) Saturday evening so I'm not sure how we'll be feeling on Sunday. If we're well enough rested we'll get there. Have fun if we don't make it!

Will there be any paddles that are for beginners and any places that have rentals?

My sister and I did this a few years ago and even though there's not much opportunity for good swimming, it's a fun weekend. There's a nice Army Corps of Engineers campsite on the east side of the river just south of town. Water lilies are gigantic! If you haven't already done it, give it a try.

Hubby and I tried kayaking for the first time this past summer. Borrowed an Urban Ecology double kayak in the MV and used it on the river right there. Wasn't the best location but we had fun. I am hoping this group can give us insight on what are the best kayaks for starters and opportunities for us to learn more about the sport.

I just bought a kayak and live near the Urban Ecology center I'd kayak with anyone willing to teach me what I'm doing! Message me if you wouldn't mind teaching me some ropes.

When will this happen? Any one interested in paddling Milwaukee River much further north? At rowing club, lots of boat traffic and gas smell. Not my favorite

Where are you starting? When are you doing this. I really want to paddle the river from Thiensville south to either Brown Deer Road (1.5 hrs) or prior to waterfall in Glendale (3 hrs). If anyone is interested in doing this portion, let me know.

Are there any places that would rent kayaks for this leg of the trip?

I just paddled the Milwaukee River with Bruce, Jill and Marga and had a great time! Would like to do it again, and maybe stop for lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants.
