Our club, Hubmasters, is part of the global Toastmasters network. We have prepared speeches and ad-hoc speaking opportunities, as well as valuable time for feedback and constructive criticism.
But we put a bit of an entrepreneurial spin on the Toastmasters experience. How? At every meeting, one or more of us are giving a pitch. You know, the pitch for the perfect service or product we have and want someone to invest in or buy.
Aside from prepared speeches, at all meetings you'll have the chance to do at least one of the following:
* Practice impromptu speaking during Table Topics
* Evaluate the speaking of other members
* Take on a critical functionary role, e.g. timer, grammarian, or ah-counter
* Be the MC for the night (i.e. the Toastmaster)
You can come to as many meetings as you want as a guest if just being around other public speakers is helpful. As a guest you can participate in Table Topics, deliver a pitch and receive feedback, be a in functionary, and do the first speech of the Competent Communicator Manual.
But it's as a member that you'll get to practice and learn the most as part of the Hubmasters community. Every member also gets the “Competent Communicator Manual,” which has 10 lessons and prepared speeches from Toastmasters and developed to establish the foundation of your public speaking skills.
When you’re ready to improve your public speaking, let us know who you are and come visit us at the next meeting!
