And then, in a blaze of glory--here comes the US 101rst! Paradropping in behind enemy lines with grenades, they catch the defenders by surprise. Knocked over figures were killed by the grenades, the fallen paratrooper died upon landing on a dragon
This is a group dedicated to those huge, epic board games that never make it to the table anywhere else. We're new to the area and with a one-year-old boy we don't get out much to meet people, so this seems like a great way to get started playing our game collection in the area! We're looking for both experienced players and those willing to learn (or teach!), and we have a pretty extensive collection.
The games played in this group are usually what is considered 'Ameritrash' (as opposed to 'Euros', what silly terms but everyone uses them.) So if you're looking for a nice friendly nonconfrontational game of Settlers of Catan this is the wrong group :) We play primarily wargames, but also plenty of other types; the general theme however is one of dicerolling (or card-slinging like Starcraft) and conflict-based games. Actual miniatures-based wargames like Warhammer only hit the table here rarely but do happen once in a while, and very rarely we'll do something like Railways of the World but not often. We're about tanks, battlecruisers, laser blasters, heavy artillery, and dragons breathing fire on hordes of Elvish archers.
We are experienced players ourselves, but very used to teaching games to newer people, so please don't feel intimidated by the size of some of the games if you are a newer player. We all were once, and we pride ourselves on being welcoming of new players and understanding and forgiving of their difficulties while learning the hobby. Go ahead and sign up for Twilight Imperium if you want; we're pretty friendly and easy-going on newer players, you'll be an expert in no time!
Ill also put up regular nights of other, less-epic games as well. There is a running Friday Night Fight series for shorter games on Friday nights, a monthly Tide of Iron game, and Ill be happy to host games during the week for anyone who has free days. (Im a housedad while my wife works so Im always here pretty much.)
Please contact me prior to suggesting your own Meetup on this site; Meetup.com does charge for the ability to host Meetups, and we created this site to host games at our house. Ill probably be cool with you wanting to host something at your place, but only once you've attended a few games here and not if it conflicts with anything we're doing. Meetup is not that expensive; start a group and you'll get members soon! Ill probably be your first one!
There are a few general house rules that always apply, so I'll put them up here.
All games are alcohol-friendly but no other chemical experience enhancers, please--we do have a small child. (Nothing against substances in general, just life is different now that we have children.) Smoking can be done out back in the orchard, not near the house. (We have a big yard.)
The only guns we are comfortable with at our house is our own; please no guns or other weapons.
We are fiscally conservative and socially liberal ; we frequently have spirited political discussions at the house and all viewpoints are welcome; if a discussion gets out of hand we will swiftly bring the talk back to the game we're playing. Everyone is welcome to their views and thats important, but there are a very few things that we will not tolerate in the house, and those are hateful statements towards any other member or any segment of the population, and directly disrespectful comments about our nations armed forces. You can disagree with something like gay marriage without asking for gays to be hung, and you can disagree with war without saying all our soldiers are babykillers. (To date, this has never been an issue here and nobody has ever been asked to leave, but lets just agree to disagree and be civil about it ahead of time, shall we?)
It is absolutely required that you have fun and enjoy yourself while you are here. These games are about hanging out with friends and having fun more than they are about winning and losing. Most games only have one winner and lots of losers; nobody here really cares who wins or loses as long as everyone had a good time!
