For those who think they should start working on advance js stuff, http://superherojs.com/

    1 · October 4, 2013

  • Mahesh S.

@Akshay Mathur: It was good session, even you covered some introductory topics like CoffeeScript, BackBoneJS... It was good! Please update here about CSI Workshop on JS which will be conducted after diwali.
I specially thanks for @Akshay, who gave some information about books and tools at end of the session. @Akshay, I would like to request you, can we arrange one more meetup on the same in that you contribute your advance knowledge?

    October 3, 2013

    • Akshay

Sure but I think we should cover basics first as @Akshay Mathur said and I agree to, jump to advance will leave basics unclear and I don't want that. Hopefully we can find mixing both nicely in, that would be better i guess.

      October 4, 2013

  • Akshay

Thanks to Akshay Mathur we finally started it, I hope we will keep it going and learn javascript before blaming it for our problems (bugs), I will share my suggestions here Book : Javascript The good parts by Douglas Crockford

Videos : http://javascript.crockford.com/ ( there are links to Douglas Crockford's videos on that page )

Tools : jsLint or jsHint ( you can use them online too http://www.jslint.com/ ) recommended only for new code as linting old code could end up breaking code and add bugs.

Reference Library : jquery , you can open it and learn how its coded, and learn from it.

There many nice books but these are very first things you should do.

@Akshay Mathur: Thanks for such a great session on JS.
As a web developer i got some basics clear which was previously not cleared like OOPS JS where we spent a lot time on that.
Also it was interactive session but i want to give some suggestion to make the Meetup more interactive and helpful to the New comers.
In today's meetup i thought the back benches are not getting time for interaction so which makes discussion closed for the frontier people. So it should be focused that all present people are in interaction.
Also Let the people speak who knows anything as sometime Akshay wants to talk.
So arrange such sessions in a month once/twice so that we can have more discussion.

    October 2, 2013

    • Akshay

@Akshay Mathur I never felt it that way that you stopped me :D, i think it was fare discussion.

      October 3, 2013

    • Akshay

@Akshay Sawant yes I actually want to arrange as many as we can :)

The session was interactive. But some of the topics were not discussed in details like the OOPS features in JS and prototype. Next time please have additional 30 mins session only for questions and answers.

Thank you very much Akshay Mathur for your professional guidance looking forward to learn many more new things under your guidance.

    October 3, 2013

    • Mandar V.

since we spent so much time in the introduction (which was the topic anyway) I think we ran out of time. Additionally, OO and prototype may be intermediate topic (if not advanced) Depending on the level of the audience not everything can be covered in one small session of 3 hours.

Did not realize that map is showing the default location of Pune. .... Just updated the map.... The address (Prabhat House, Damle Road) was correct.

The place is on Law College Road near Barista Cafe/FTII. The Landmark building on the corner of Damle Road is IndSearch.

    Hi All,

Below is the list of topics that will be covered in the first session on JavaScript. This session covers basics of JavaScript (targeted for newbies) and perhaps lays the foundation of advanced sessions that might be planned in future.

The session will have code samples to explain certain concepts. Since this is basic session, IMO hands-on is not required.

    - Declaring variables, Objects
    - Basic syntax
    - Operators
    - Conditional statements
    - Loops
    - In-built functions
    - Defining and calling functions
    - Demo (as required during the presentation)

Apologies for my tardiness. This entire week has been a blur and I couldn't contact the people concerned for the venue. But I see some of you guys have stepped up and figured out a venue. Kudos to the org team, I wish you all the best for this Meetup and promise to be more helpful next time. Sorry again.

Has someone already planned the session?
If not, I can take a session on JS for newbies if enough number of people interested in it and location is convenient.

The description says that you (and others) have learnt something.
It will be good if that 'something' is known and objective of the session (what we want to achieve) is clear.
