Study group for the Coursera course: Functional Programming Principles in Scala

Some of us from ThoughtWorks Pune office are taking the Odersky course on coursera: Functional Programming Principles in Scala. This is a really nice course for the beginners who want to get gently introduced to the world of functional programming using Scala: https://class.coursera.org/progfun-2012-001/class/index

We have formed a small study group within ThoughtWorks and plan to meet every thursday at 5.30 pm to watch videos, help with tools and Scala language tips. I will facilitate hands on sessions to learn Scala as required. We are opening this event to participation from people outside ThoughtWorks.

I am scheduling this meetup for the next Thursday, but we plan repeat it every week, same day, time and venue. See you there!

I am absolutely new to functional programming as well as scala. Would that be a problem?

Not at all. The main problem is consistency. If you do not go over videos and assignments every week, it will get difficult to follow as you move ahead. The course is already in the 6th week, so there is going to be a lot to catchup.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
