The Winning Kids Club launched its new Puppy Love Park of Southwest Florida, because a socialization program for puppies is sorely needed in Lee County. Puppies exposed to friendly, kind, gentle people, animals, places, and things, develop into well-adjusted, happy adult dogs. While effective socialization is critical, this initial time period is very short. When Paxton, my first Saint Bernard, was a puppy, I couldn’t find anywhere to take her that was clean, friendly, and safe. For two years, I researched the issue and trained Paxton to be a well-adjusted, gentle and loving Comfort Dog. We recently returned from the tornado zone where we visited schools, churches, and shelters, and Paxton comforted traumatized children who had lost their families and their homes in the storms. Also, studies show that puppies and kids are good for each other -- for emotional health, stress release, and physical fitness. Together, kids and puppies learn mutual trust, respect; and have buckets of fun! The combo also counters the daily negative news kids are exposed to. Kids and parents are welcome to bring puppies up to 12 months old for socialization and games. Bringing a puppy is optional; however, for the safety of puppies and children, pet parents must show proof of immunizations before admittance.
