What is your main reason for joining the group?

Share some best practices for rehabbing mill dogs - especially terriers.

Please give us some background on your dog(s). Age? Where did the dog come from? What past training have you done with your dog?

Bonnie (my mill Westie) came from a terrible farm mill in NC. We spent a lot of time gaining her trust, teaching her to live in a house with people, and then moved on to basic obedience in a group class. We adopted a Westie puppy (Gracie) approx 3 mos after we got Bonnie. Having a younger dog around Bonnie helped tremendously, as the puppy wasn't afraid of much, if anything. Getting mill dogs to have positive experiences (reinforced with good rewards) can help them gain trust in new situations.

Does your dog come from a puppy mill or hoarding situation?

I am a volunteer with Westie Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic and currently have two Westie girls. Bonnie (approx 4-5 yrs old) was rescued 2 years ago from a mill in Ashboro, NC. It has been a journey rehabbing her - love to help other w/same process!
