Learn the basics - casting on, knitting, purling, casting off, gauge, reading patterns, fixing mistakes, et al.
The date is set for February 22nd, from 10am -12pm at the Eugene Field Public Library. Parking is not the greatest there but I wanted to pick a somewhat central location, so arrive early to get a spot!
For the class I'm suggesting but not requiring a contribution of $5 per person. This is to cover the cost of renting the meetup room and meetup.com dues.
Supplies: please bring yarn and needles. I highly recommend getting a chunky yarn for several reasons: it's easy to see the stitches, easy to correct mistakes, and knits up quick. Some easily found suggestions would be Lion Brand Thick & Quick or Loops & Threads Cozy Wool (try Michaels or JoAnn's). I'd stay away from novelty yarns for learning. For needles you will need a size appropriate for your yarn. Look at the label of the yarn, and you should see a symbol like this:
The one with the knitting needles (two sticks) tells you what size needles you need. In this case, size US 8. You can get a set of single point needles or a circular needle, the choice is up to you. I will say that I almost exclusively use circular needles, even when I'm not knitting in the round, as I think they're easier to handle, and easier on your wrists.
Since we will be so close to 730 South, I'm thinking a brunch/lunch outing will be optional after the class if you want to join!
