Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

We have an opportunity to participate in Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, as follows:

"The Women in Engineering Program (WEP) expects 2,000 1st-8th graders to join us for hands-on engineering/science/math activities and fun on Saturday, February 22 for Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) as part of Engineers Week. We need 700+ student, alumni, community & corporate volunteers to make this day a success."

PyLadies ATX has put our hat in the ring to help out at this exciting event. We have some good games planned to help introduce participants to computer programming concepts in a fun way!

Putting the call out for a small but committed group of PyLadies volunteers to help make this an awesome event for all concerned. Appreciate y'all getting involved!

If you haven't already done so, please register yourself as a volunteer for this event (with PyLadies as the organization) using the following link:

Hey Pyladies! My colleagues and I at Rackspace are doing a balloon mapping demo at UT Girl Day. We'll be outside for most of the afternoon. Stop by and say hello! What's balloon mapping, you ask? Check out my friend Sean's video: http://georamblings.com/2012/10/video-from-macurisa-conference-balloon-mapping-flight/.

Blanche and Hayley, really appreciate your eagerness to get involved. Ideally, would want all participants to be there for the duration, but as long as you're there for the registration and are able to participate for a few hours, I don't see why not.

I am volunteering at Intel's activity event from noon to 5. Does Pyladies have a schedule for the day? I would love to drop and say hello by if y'all are available after 5.

I'd love to join but have a scheduling conflict. Is it alright for me to come and leave a bit early?

I'll be helping run the "Code Across Austin" event this same day, so don't think I'll be able to make it. I want to hear all the stories afterwards, though!

I notice on the event page it's saying volunteers can't register. However, it looks like PyLadies as an org are the ones to volunteer? Also, there seems to be some sort of instruction involved too (do we know when that is?) I definitely want to volunteer at this event :)

As an aside, we could also grab dinner somewhere downtown afterwards if people are up for that.
