Python for Newbies (OTP) - LPTHW

  • This location is shown only to members

Are you new to programming? New to Python? Do you want to learn it? Come join me on weekends and together we'll go through the Learn Python the Hard Way book (PS: "hard" = proper/thorough/best!) that's available for free online at: http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/

What do you need to know? Nothing - although typing will help!

What should you bring? A laptop! And a can-do mindset :)

For this first session, we'll work through Exercises 0 - 4 inclusive (which includes installing for those that don't yet have python installed)

Hope to see you there!

PS: The location is part of an office block (across the road from Sonic). I'll put balloons outside the specific building where we'll be meeting so that it's easy to spot!

The hubs was not made it back yet since he was called out to client site earlier this morning. If he gets back on-time I will be there. Hate I might be missing this!!

The book that we're working through does strongly ask that we use python v2 (instead of v3)... We can talk about this tomorrow. (So anyone that doesn't have already have python installed, we'll install v2)

I'm a complete newbee. I have a MacBook and need help just getting Calico to work with Python 3.3. Sunday is actually a good meet time for me.I'm a student and have classes Monday-Friday.

I am completely new to this group. Is Python a software that you need on your laptop for this class?

Nope, we can help you install at the start of the meetup. Just bring yourself and your laptop :)

Awesome, the meetup is on! See you there :) We'll help each other get all set up and then start working through the book! There is a Starbucks up the road (on Crabapple), but the place also has a kettle there for tea (welcome to bring along your own tea selection)

Obviously, if no-one can make a Sunday 2pm slot, I'd be open to other day / time suggestions :) I thought a weekend meetup would be a nice alternative for those that struggle with the ATL traffic on week nights.
