Python Hack Night

Get new and experienced Python developers to connect, come up with and work on interesting projects.

Taking lead from the Ruby group in Toronto, a good format is likely:

Each hack night, anyone who wants to lead a project can write their idea on the whiteboard, and spend 5-10 minutes describing what they want to work on. Anyone attending can join up with any of the leaders, and we'll break into 4-5 groups each working on a cool, interesting problem.

Here's the structure we'll be working with for each Hack Night:

6:30 - 7:00 - Leaders present their ideas for projects to work on
7:00 - 9:30 - Break into groups, work on projects
9:30 - 10:00 - Each group takes 5-10 minutes to present what they worked on and interesting things they learned or discovered.

We're going to focus on teaming up newer Python developers with more experienced devs. Developers of any skill level are welcome to attend.

If you're interested in leading a project, come in with your ideas and be ready to describe why you think it would be a cool learning opportunity for Python developers.

It was really awesome, great people, great setting and a beautiful programming language, who could ask for more.

I'd like to attend one of the future events but I'm just wondering about the skill level needed to participate. I'm very much a python newb but learning new things every day.

FYI: I am just suggesting a location by no means forcing it. BNOTIONS would love to host Python Hack Night with Space, Pizza, Beer, Internet, etc.

Thanks for the link Dimitri, would hate to miss that one (any reason why is it not an advertised here in this Meetup group?)

Slightly off-topic, but just wanted to make sure that everyone knew about Pycon Canada 2013 http://2013.pycon.ca/en/. Other than the talks and tutorials, there is also 2 days of development sprints which maybe of some interest to this group. The development sprints are a great opportunity to learn and contribute to an open source project.

I've just started with meetups in Toronto area; attending Ruby Brigade meetup tonight, in fact -- but I am more interested in Python, to be honest, and it's kind of sad to see no such activity on this group. So yeah, willing to come whenever and wherever for whatever! =] Any start is better than no start =)

I've just sent a message on - hoping we'll get this started, and then the broader community will help to figure out the 'where' part!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
