QS San Diego #10 Recap and News

From: Ernesto R.
Sent on: Sunday, May 27, 2012 12:33 PM

Hello there wonderful makers, trackers, doers, and learners!

First of all thank you to the 40 or so of you that showed up on Thursday for our tenth QS meetup. We had a great time and hopefully you all learned a bit more about some cool stuff. For those of you who couldn't make it here is a short recap:

We were able to get an awesome tour from our meeting host, Maker Place - San Diego's first space for creating DIY projects. If you're a maker, hacker, or just want to use some awesome industrial machinery for your next project you should definitely check out Maker Place.

We also had two great talks from new QS members. First up, How-Lun showed us a really cool project he's working on to create an easy to wear temperature sensor. He also showed us some really interesting data showing how body temperature changes throughout the night. Next up, we had a great talk from Roxanne who showed us a really unique year-long project where she tracked her "asks." She set herself a goal to ask someone, or a group of people, something every day and tracked success, "ask" category, and a variety of other metrics. You can read more about her experiment and what she learned on her blog, The Daily Asker.

Now for some cool stuff just for you!

One of our co-organizers, John Amschler, talked about a discount offered to QS members for blood test analysis so we wanted to send that info along in case you're interested:

For those of you who have been inspired by the trip to Maker Place or just have the itch to start building your own self-tracking gadgets and gizmos then look no further. FabLab San Diego is hosting a variety of classes to get you started. You can read more about those classes and sign up here: FabLab+MakerPlace. And for those QS members with kids or high school aged friends the upcoming summer programs are looking pretty amazing as well!

Alright that's all for now. We'll be looking to have our next meetup in 6 to 8 weeks so be on the lookout. We're always looking for interesting meeting spaces and talks so please let us know if you're interested in hosting us or giving a talk about your self-tracking project!

Enjoy this wonderful day!
