For those of you with a bit of a background in Physics and Mathematics, I submit to you something that I've taken a recent interest in - an alternative to String and M-Brane theories as a possible Theory of Everything (a theory that describes all fundamental forces of nature as the effects of a single fundamental universal force) - but without the need for other dimensions - known as Loop Quantum Gravity, which describes all space as being a network of looped quantum gravitational fields known as spin networks. One notable prediction of this theory is that all space and time is descrete and not continuous, and space and time is nothing more than a quantum network of these looped gravitational fields.
Below are links to youtube clips of an interesting if slighty challenging talk by Carlo Rovelli, who along with Lee Smolin developed the theory of Loop Quantum Gravity. Notable concepts in the formalism of Quantum Mechanics, such as Hilbert Spaces
